Goodbye Parliament. You're next, Zuul!

I don't want to be DRAMATIC tonight. I finished the Easyway. I made myself do all my smoking today without additional entertainment. Boy, was that a wake up. I was SO bored, I had a hard time getting through my cut-back ration! With 4 left in the pack for before bed, I spent some extra time putting my 11 year old to bed and I felt NO RUSH to get to them. And ya know what? This IS pointless. (The smoking, I mean!) What am I getting from it???

-I was rushing through daily activities with my kids to get outside.

-I was ignoring my husband to get outside.

-I was doing SO MUCH WORK to keep it hidden.

-It was slowing me down.

-It was truly not tasty or a real treat.

-It was making me feel like a fake and a flake.

-It was really just an illusion of escape, a perfectly designed trap.

My Monster is GOING DOWN!!!!

Great attitude!  Those are all great thoughts and motivations.and REASONS for quitting.  For me, personally, lists of all the reasons I wanted and needed to quit ultimately never made a difference in the success of my quit, because the reasons were pretty much the same each time around.  Speaking for myself only here. What made the difference was being willing to go through whatever it took for as long as it took to get to the other side of the addiction (which I didn't even know WAS an addiction until I  became educated about it,and learned it wasn't just a bad habit.)   It was the 100% commitment with no excuses that got me here.

Is that list of yours strong enough to keep you a away from your next puff?  If so - GREAT.  If not, think about what will be.

Cheering you on for tomorrow!

I think so. I am a go-getter in every other area of my life. I actually said, "Yippee, I'm free!" to my husband last night! He thinks I'm nuts but he also won't read the book-- and a summary just won't do. So, today I'm a non-smoker. Non-smokers don't need nicotine to "get through" a day. I actually don't need to "get through" today!!! I just need to get out there and DO MY LIFE today!!! I'm planning a run later-- and one EVERY day for the next two weeks. I want to SEE and FEEL the change. I KNOW I will.

I love that you used the past tense describing your smoking issues! That's a good sign.

I have ready Easy Way a few times and keep a copy on my phone. That book sorta saved my life.

Congrats on your decision to quit. Looking forward to reading more from you.

Day 169

I'm SO glad you noticed that!! As I was writing, I started with all WAS-- but as I was listing things, some sentences inadvertently became present tense. I noticed this when I finished my list and went back and corrected it. It was like a confirmation as I changed each one to past tense. It seems like such a little thing, but it's not. I need to see myself NOW as a non-smoker.

It's very like there are two ME's. One who is outgoing, energetic, inspiring to others, a real go-getter and this other mushy mope who smokes and wonders if awesome me is just an act. By bringing Zuul (my monster) to life, I have come to the revelation that "Awesome Me" is ME!!! Mushy, Mopey Me is really Zuul taking over and whispering awful things that just are not true. It sounds so very complicated, but it's quite clear to me. And writing it down helps. If Zuul starts whispering, I just need to go back and re-read what I wrote when I was in the right place.

Congratulations on Day 1. It's Day 1 of a long journey to freedom from nicotine addiction. Just take things one day at a time. You might want to fix your quit date under 'quit stats' which currently says

May 28, 2019

Welcome to Day Won!!!!!

You have everything it takes to be a winner. As you’ve been thru this before you know you will probably go thru some crazies. Take it all in as if it’s an obstacle course. Embracing each challenge. They will end, you will survive and you will be that much more empowered. Think of this as truly an exciting time. You are no longer a smoker. How exciting is this day....

Stay out of your head.....

Yes it does.  Don't know why someone thought it was wrong?  Oh well, gave you something to do other than smoke.  LOL

If you change it on the My Quit Plan site it won't update right away.  You have to log out of the community to get it to resync.  Once you log back into the community it will resync and today's date will show.

Barbscloud‌ It shows in your hovercard and that is where the old date is still showing.  You can go to How do I get my quit date to show on the community?‌ to see steps to update and resync.

It says June 4th for her quit date. The hovercard says June 3rd.  I don't understand.

It was changed. When i looked at it I copy and pasted the date that was shown to me under quit stats on her profile.

She got it synced now.

The Hovercard is off by one day.  There is a bug where it shows the dates on the hovercard one day older than the actual date on the profile.  It's an annoying bug that has been going on a while (apparently challenging to solve).

I know that.  Someone told her the date showed Many 28th.  She wanted to know how to fix it.  I was telling her how to fix it, but was  apparently correct already.  The hover showed June 3rd and here quit date June 4th.   IDK

When I replied it still showed 5/27 but it's showing 6/3(which is the correct date for the hovercard) since the quit date on profile is 6/4.

Dear Giulia, early on in my quit once I even got kind of angry with you. Can’t remember why or what you said. Looking back it made me all the more determined to show you I could do it. Woohoo! It’s been a tiny bit over three years now. Who would have guessed I’d make it to here!

Giulia

Yes, well, lots of people get angry with me.  LanaKay  I didn't get the "Tell it Like it Is" paper plate award for nothin'!  lol  If it motivated you to have a successful quit (even if it's because you were T'd off at me), that's a GOOD thing!  I'm really happy for your 3 years of longevity.

I'd much rather be told like it is. The goal is to get real here, right? I'm tired of pretend.

So sorry! It's the monster from Ghostbusters that possesses Dana. My monster feels just like that. It's someone else in charge, not me.

NOPE (Not One Puff Ever)!

YOU are in charge - not Zuul.

.......and don't you forget it.

The ONLY person who can make you smoke is you - so just don't!

Ahhh That's right. I haven't seen that movie in a long time. Now I can think of Sigourney Weaver's face
