Good bye Nic.....

It's been 24 hours since I took the patch off and I'm starting to feel the effects.  I have a slight headache today, been having mild heartburn here n there, was restless when I tried to fall asleep last night, and the cravings are more intense this afternoon.  I'm also very irritated - every little things is ticking me off 😞

The symptoms however are Not as bad as they were a couple weeks ago when i tried a cold-turkey quit. I'm drinking lots of water today and plan to get some juice at the store to try and speed up getting this nicotine out of my system.  I'm craving a cigarette pretty bad right now.  I'm fighting through it.  I will NOT Smoke Today.

I try to stay as positive as I can, but there's moments where I fear keeping the quit will be a constant battle my whole life and I wonder if I'm really prepared for that.   Then I get so angry at myself for ever starting smoking in the first place.  Etc...........I'm sure most of you out there can relate.

Very early in this journey I stated that I would look at this quit much like labor.  Afterall - if I could acheive natural childbirth - no pain meds at all - 7 times..........then I can get through Anything.   One major part of labor is when you get to the point where you feel like you just can't go on anymore.  That's when you know you're in transition - the labor is almost over and is at it's most intense.   So every time i get one of those intense cravings over the next day or so, I'll just have to keep reminding myself that this is transition - it is my body transitioning to a nicotine free state, it is my mind transitioning to being a non smoker.

I'm proud of you Momma.  You are doing such a GREAT thing for yourself.  You have much strength, and I love the way you relate it to labor.  Great mindset.  It does get easier. Just maybe not today.  But each day is another day in the sunshine, clean and smober.  You will reap such HUGE  rewards that you just can't imagine right now.  Like labor, push and breathe through it.

Blessings upon you and you Family and Loved Ones

Thank you 🙂

Shortly after writing this post I found myself snapping at every little thing - kids were drivin me nuts.  So I had enough, loaded em up in the van, drove to the gas station and bought.............................................. gas ;o)  And took them to the park to burn off some energy!  Me and the baby played in the grass while the other little ones played on the slides, then we walked over to the pond to see the geese.  Would have liked to have stayed longer but the other kids will start getting home from school soon.

It's so strange, I'll sit here and think that I'm craving a cigarette - but when I was at the gas station with thousands of packs of cigarettes staring me in the face - I was not even the least bit tempted to buy a pack.  The thought never even crossed my mind.  Which truly leads me to believe that I am not really craving a cigarette at all - I am just talking myself INTO craving a cig. anytime I start to get bored.  I need to find a way to change that.

I like the labor analogy. If you can do that without a drug then you can beat big tobacco no problem. It's amazing how strong a women can be in labor and us guys just pass out. Keep on quittin'!

I know I have been talking about this site alot lately but it talks about retraining our brains to feel the same pleasure without cigarettes as we did, or thought we did, with cigarettes. www.quitsmokingonline.com  I was also worried that every day would be a constant struggle. But it's not and the hard times are shorter and further between. 🙂
