Hello All,

I have been on this board for a couple years on and off. I quit for a couple months and then go back try again and then go back.  I have set a new date of Nov 24th and want it to be the last time this time.  What has worked for you and how do you cope.

Thanks

Tammy

You simply have to decide that you will not smoke another cigarette NO MATTER WHAT.  You make that decision and then never second guess yourself.  Each day, you make the commitment and those days add up to weeks into months into years.

Have you done the reading we recommend?  That all seriously helped me, as did reading the blogs and pages of those here who have been successful.  If you need links, please let me know.

This CAN be your final quit.  It's totally up to you!

Come here every day! Fill your brain with messages about why you wish to quit!

When I wanted to exercise, having app after app talk to me about exercise kept it foremost in my mind. Same with nutrition.

Smoking Cessation is even moreso dependent on thought processes and filling the brain with positive thoughts!

BE HERE! It works!

You have to make the committment to not smoke no matter what and stick to that committment !!!  Stay close to this site and educate yourself on nicotine addiction. Education and committment !!!  There is no magic pill and its not easy, but it can be done and I promise you it is so worth it.

keep calm and carry on

Having a no matter what attitude that I am not going to smoke.Being a part of a support group. Having an avenue to express what I am going through. Knowing that just one puff will take me back to square one.   NOPE not one puff ever.  Knowing that smoking is not going to change anything.

If you are going to ry again, start from the beginning and not the end. And on hat note.

Welcome  Nikibug  You have come to the right place if you are making the decision to commit to quit smoking.  At EX our resolve is to never smoke again.  NOPE “Not one puff ever.”  I suggest that you follow the steps on the web site pages along with reading, writing, studying, researching and blogging if you like.

This is all about you and what you are willing to do to be a nonsmoker.  If you haven’t read it, here is a link to Allen Carr’s book, “Easy Way to Quit Smoking”.  It is an easy read suggested by the “elders” (those with1+ yrs. Quit).http://media.wix.com/ugd/74fa87_2010cc5496521431188f905b7234a829.pdf

Also check out www.whyquit.com. there is a lot of additional beneficial information to read and study.  Look for Freedom From Nicotine My Journey Home and Nicotine Addiction 101. Both were extremely helpful for me.  Stay close to the site and learn, ask questions. Read the blogs and most of all enjoy your commitment to quit smoking.

If you should need something to do here is a link that will help https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/blogs/Youngatheart.7.4.12-blog/2013/02/25/100-things-to-do-instea...).

If you take the time to do the work you will have success.

Think positively about your future as a non-smoker and negatively on your past as a smoker.  You have to figuratively kill your addiction, and while the decision to quit is a clean, swift stroke, the death of your addiction is a slow, steady affixiation ... precisely the fate to which it will treat you if you continue to nurture it.

I am like you, a chronic relapser. Now I have 2 weeks of freedom and I am feeling better than ever and positive that I will never smoke again. I continually remind myself of how awful I felt as a smoker. I am 57 with severe copd so it's vital that I stay quit. I would advise you to not wait until you have a terminal disease to quit.

What works for me is Willingness, commitment, education about this addiction and coming to this site as often as possible. I make time for it, everyday! That's how I do it! You can do it too!
