Going to the doctor

I'm having an MRI done on my right knee this morning.  I'm seeing my ortho dr this afternoon to go over the results to figure out what needs to be done.  I'm a cashier and stand on concrete floors for 40hrs a week for the last 28yrs.  My goal is to retire when I hit 30yrs but need/want to get all my health issues taken care of while I still have good insurance.  I'm using Chantix and get that FREE through my insurance, how great is that!  I'm 7hrs into day 2 of my quit and feel a bit foggy.  I'm sure that's to be expected.  Whatever the outcome of today's doctor visit is, I WILL NOT SMOKE!  It helps to know you are ALL rooting for me!  Thanks for that and wish me luck!

Lots of thoughts and prayers your way SaraCorinne!....Nicotine is a toxin and keeps the body from healing itself when it needs to. And YES you can do this! Have an awesome day and I hope things work out very well.

There are anti-fatigue mats for the floor - I know it would be a hassle to get one to your station every day, but it might help.

Also - if they haven't already tried - I hope they recommend a shot of cortisone before they recommend surgery.  Ask for a copy of the MRI to be sent electronically to you - and DO get a second opinion.  I had to go to FOUR orthopedists before I got a correct diagnosis on my knee pain...... TWO before anybody found a hairline fracture of my femur -  the third to get a brace for the fracture, and the fourth not to blame my continued knee pain after that healed on arthritis.  Actually, the end of the femur had died from the inflammation from walking on a broken femur and I thus needed a partial knee replacement.  If you have good insurance, they should pay for the 2nd opinion.

Congrats on your second day  Brain fog is a normal withdrawal symptom.  It WILL pass - but it takes a bit of time.  Just get through it!

Good for you....I hope for the best possible outcome, but just know should you need to have any surgery, you will heal faster by being smoke free!   Good for you!! Root Root, Toot Toot!

We are rooting for you.  Standing is the WORST for knees.  Moving you knees, even while standing there, might help keep some lubrication going, like just bending your heel up to your buttocks every fifteen minutes or so a couple of times.  Many of us here have knee problems, so we know what you're going through.  Hope the MRI helps illuminate.  (What Sandy said!)

The doctor I saw today said I have two options.  Double Knee replacement or if I wasn't ready for that, braces and cortisone shots which I have already done over the years.  I'm seeing another specialist tomorrow to see if he agrees.  I figured as much since I've battled knee pain for years.  Bright side, I'll get out of work but that means lots of time on my hands.  I won't deny, that worries me a little.  I'm trying to stay in the moment and not freak out about what may or may not happen tomorrow.  Unfortunately, I'm also an over thinker....  What I know for sure is, it really seems to help when I put my thoughts into words here!  Lord knows you all understand what I'm talking about and going through.  I love my family but they don't get it like you guys do.  I've had a heck of a day.......I'm going to relax the rest of the day w/Netflix and my bed.  If I'm sleeping, I'm not smoking!  I'm halfway through day 2!

Well, at least now you know what your options are.  And smart to get another opinion.  I know several people who have had great relief from knee replacements.  Chin up.
