The Great State of Alabama is raising the tax on a pack of cigarettes from $.47 to $1.42 to help pay for keeping the court system open during the economic downturn.  As much as I am glad I quit and won't have to pay that tax I still think this is ridiculous, hypocritical and tantamount to extortion. I hate any taxx that is not enacted by a vote.   At any rate it is another reason I can add to my list of reasons to continue my quit.  Have a great smoke free day.

I agree with you on everything you said,  Tax in Coonecticut is crazy!  I do admit it was a strongly motivating factor but I still resent it.  Self-righteous lot!  First rob a portion of the population blind and then act disgusted with them for doing the thing that enabled them to rob them! Dispicable.  Congrats on your 11 days, I'm on 13.

Absolutely right. A pack in MI of name brands is around 7 bucks now with all the recently added taxes and I refuse to pay it!

That was another one of the main factors in my wife and I quitting this time. I just can not afford it anymore and I'd be ashamed to pay that  much for a stinkin' pack of smokes! Smoking is no longer an option!

Oh Bryan!  Where'd I get 11 days?!   Its all the oxygen I'm getting to the brain now!  Poor thing isn't used to it!  Congrats on 73 days!!!!!

South Dakota added a $1 a pack tax two years ago to pay for all their state funded programs....sooooooo glad I am not contributing to their greedy coiffers anymore!  Love having the xtra money in MY pocket !!!LOL!!!

@DiD and don't forget Mr. Obama's SCHIP that was added last year.  My hope is that enough people quit because of the new tax that they can't fund any of it.  Then were will they be.
