Giving Power

~~It all begins and ends in your mind. What you give power to, has power over you, if you allow it.~  Spirit Science

There is no boogey man.  No  monsters under your bed.  There's nothing in the dark that isn't in the light.  And yet we convince ourselves there is.  We fear the dark or monsters or boogey men until we grow up and realize it was all in our  mind.

Quitting is like that.  We fear it.  What if we fail....again?  What if we go crazy from the cravings?  What if we can't do it? What if  we disappoint all those who love us and want us to quit?

Don't give your addiction that power.  The reality is that anyone can stop smoking.  Anyone.  Even you. And the reality is that it is as simple as not picking up another cigarette.  It's not rocket science....it's not brain surgery...it's not quantum physics. Just don't smoke.  The struggle comes from not knowing what else to do when we feel...anything. How do we get through our days without our addiction?  Where can we hide from life?  What can we do?

But we give our addiction the edge by thinking these negatives.  We can't. We don't know how to live without them.  We are different.  We are Big. Smoking. Failures.

Nonsense!! We give smoking that power and it has power over us. It will tell us to be stressed.  It will tell us to feel misery.  It will tell us that we can't.

But it's just all in our minds.  Take that power away from your addiction and give it to your quit.  You CAN quit.  You CAN get through the day without a cigarette.  You CAN feel stress without smoking.  You CAN get through a craving without caving.

Every addictive thought you think can be turned into a quit thought instead. Do not give power to what you are trying to give up or it will linger, attack, nag, whisper uglies, and convince you that you can't live without it.  Reality says different, my friends.  Reality says that millions of people have quit and they are NO different from you.  Quitting is not only possible, but proven.

So please pay attention to your thoughts.  Remind yourself to not give power to the addictive ones.  Turn instead to quit thoughts.  The reasons you want to be smoke free. The benefits.  The freedom.  Remind yourself that you have gotten through every bad day you've ever had and you can get through this.  Remind yourself to be your own hero.  Nurture that quit from day 1.  Take good care of you and know that you deserve so much more than what your smoking gives you!

Best wishes,

Sheri
