Getting Ready

I am trying to cut down the smoking. Taking all of the cigarettes that I consider "extras" and cut them out. Morning cigarettes have been cut in half. Making a pack last 3 days instead of 1. Hopefully this will help when the 26th comes.

Hi Debra, Keeping aware of when and why are an important part of this process, learning is also another part. If you haven't done so already, please go to Nancy(experts) page and she has a couple/few direct links to some very helpful reading on quitting.

Some will tell you it's not a good idea and some will tell you it is.  You have to do what you feel is right.  I drastically cut down and did replacements for 2 weeks before I quit. I quit cold turkey and am now on Day 18.

Get excited for your quit date! 🙂

Hi!  I figured that cutting down or smoking like a train were both options... I try very hard to stay away from anything that sounds like I will be deprived since my brain will catch wind of that and then be defiant.  I ended up somewhere in the middle on the cut down/overdo balance, and it is now day 4 for smoke-free for me.  Some moments are pretty tough, but plenty aren't, and I'm taking it one day at a time.

I was super scared that it would be so hard and awful, and I would fail.  I know that if I focus on this kind of thinking, it can create my reality, so instead I acknowledged my fear, and focused on my reasons for quitting, and the hope/knowledge that it would get easier.

Good luck - you can do it!

Hi Deborah,

Keep track of why you feel like smoking  and mabe keep ajournal, so you can look back to see where the urge came from. I am here for you   and you can friend me if you want to and I'll tell you what works for me. Sugar free cinnamon disks have been a real help. Lots of education and not putting yourself in the slippery situations. Hugs-Keep going we areall here. Lstamus
