Future me 40/90

I know a couple who are in their early 70’s that are remarkable. They are extremely fit and active. They came with us on our 60 mile bike ride and had no trouble at all. They could have gone much faster and for longer. As a matter of fact, I was the anchor on that ride and I know it was because I had smoked and they never had. I look up to this couple. They are who I want to be when I grow up.

I imagine what it will be like for me in 20 years. What would my future-me tell me right now? Future-me wants to be active and enjoying retirement by through-hiking the Appalachian Trail. Future-me wants to look as good as possible. Future-me is already annoyed that I didn’t quit smoking sooner.

I can’t quit any sooner, but I can keep the quit today

Keeping the quit today IS all you can do.  NONE of us wish we had quit later!!!

You quit sooner - good for you!!!

60 miles?  How long did that take?  Sounds awesome!  Sounds like something I'd love to get into.  Do you know a bit about bikes?  Enough to give a novice some tips?

Good to keep feeling that way...'should have quit long back'

Agree. We should have quit long back. Past remained.

Can not change it. However, this is strong feeling.  Will stop from slipping on quit journey.

Thanks for note.

Good to see you here!  We did 60 miles in 2 days.  THe first day was uphill and challenging.  THe next day we had 20 miles downhill and coasted the entire way.  It was heaven.

Here is everything I know about bikes.

1. Go to a bike shop with trained personnel and buy a bike that fits your body.  A bike that's too big or too small will never be comfortable

2. The bike seat will make or break you.  Literally; it will feel as though your seat is trying to split you in half if you get the wrong one.  Keep trying seats until you get one that is less painful.

3. Bring snacks

That is great thinking and perspective for the future.  Keep up the good work and you will feel better.  I look forward to doing all of those things when I retire and feeling healthier is one of them.
