Five Years Today!

Today I celebrate my FIVE year anniversary of becoming smoke-free! I actually smoked my last cigarette the afternoon of 9/11/18, but chose the 12th as my completely cig-free start date. It wasn't easy in those first days and weeks, and I struggled a lot at times during those early months. (not unexpected, since I had smoked since I was 14, over 45 years!), but with the encouragement and wisdom of the elders and my fellow quitters I pushed through the "arghhh" times.  I admit that even now I have moments where the thought of a cigarette pops into my mind, particularly when I get stressed, but I honestly cannot imagine actually inhaling that toxic sludge into my lungs. I don't do that anymore! And i am breathing so much easier.

I no longer come here very often, but wanted to let the long-timers know how I am doing, and offer encouragement and hope for those just starting the journey to their freedom. Congratulations also to my quit buddies and fellow 9/12/18 quitters, @minihorses and @Jimbone!

Thank you, everyone!

Dave

I was a closet smoker from the time I first tried a cigarette at fourteen years old. It was going to be a one-time experiment when I was by myself, just to see what it like, but it didn't work out that way. Forty-seven years later, after countless attempts to quit smoking, I finally was able to quit smoking on 9/12/18! I couldn't have done it without this site and the wonderful people who are here.
