Feeling good on day 3!

Forgot to mention that this time I'm also nicotine free & it seems to be helping me mentally. On my last attempt (9 days), I had used a lot of nicotine gum/lozenges & I think that kept it elevated in my mind. I know it's brainwashing now, but I had a long held belief that nicotine was not the bad guy in the smoking equation. In my mind it was a miracle drug that helped you both relax & made you more alert (whichever you preferred). Of course these are opposites but I just ignored that. I do have some gum on hand in case I get headaches or feel irritable, but thankfully haven't experienced those. I feel different mentally & physically this time because I don't feel like I am losing anything other than a controlling, expensive drug addiction.
I can't say this is something that I really "wanted" to do, but more something that I felt HAD to do. I hated to admit it, but it really is a drug addiction & not some innocent habit. I was tired of spending so much money on it, hiding, hoarseness, chest pains, feeling out of breath so much, keeping up with all the stuff, etc. Just realizing that it was controlling me so much & deciding to step away from that has made the biggest difference for me.

Hope this helps someone else. Reading all of your blogs has helped and inspired me.

That realization was what made MY quit possible...and learning that Big Tobacco was adding chemicals to make it MORE addictive, and cough suppressants and something to soothe the throat made me doubly angry.

I guess they can sleep at night by counting their $$$$ instead of sheep!

Thanks for this. I've been using the patch and it's been 3 days for me as well. I am struggling with the thought that I'm still getting nicotine and how I will get off completely. Even though I'm smoke free and proud of that I'm not happy with all the nicotine I'm still getting.

Hi Ann Ann007 this journey is so much more then just quitting ... and you are intuitive that you are learning one of the biggest things so early on...we are addicts...we can never “just have one”...it is good to know we can never feed that addict...drink lots of water...to rid that nicotine...and take care of you and have a relaxing evening...You are worth this quit...~ Colleen 293 DOF

Congratulations on day 3! I would not worry about the NRT right now. Quitting smoking/vaping is such a huge deal & you should be nothing but PROUD! As for me, I realized the last time I tried to quit that I had put nicotine itself on a pedestal. The gum/lozenges became my treat/reward & perpetuated my belief that I was giving something up. That eventually led to me "treating" myself to vaping for a few hours one night each week and then back to vaping constantly. Just know that we're all different in what works for us.

Thanks for commenting! I enjoyed reading your blog too. I'm sort of just stumbling around here but am so appreciative of the support & encouragement! Keep up the good work! I am pulling for you! Ann

Alright Ann! You get after that quit! I would keep the gum on hand as a promise to do that versus smoke/vape! I did the same thing with a patch. At this point though, all the nicotine is out of your system! You might as well go without it and start to tell your mind you don't need extra receptors anymore!

You are going to be at a week before you know it! Congrats!

Just realizing that it was controlling me so much & deciding to step away from that has made the biggest difference for me.

Remember that ..."it was controlling me" and to always step away from it.

Attitude is so important. Thoughts will come and go. They will go if you let them go.

Great 3 days

Keep going.  It is a wonderful journey of freedom.  Stay on the road.  Never give up never give in.  Think.  What would a nonsmoker do?  No matter what NOPE. Congrats on 3 days.  WTG!

I know! It’s helped me immensely to get mad at the tobacco industry. All of this stuff is BAD for us!

I am after it lol! I am mad at big tobacco, the misleading marketing, and why it’s even legal to put so much “stuff” in these products? At least it’s helping me quit.

I definitely recommend this book.  It helps you understand the addiction and the habit.  I think we often think we're having withdrawals when we're really having cravings.

Thanks for the support! It really helps knowing that others are trying & succeeding in their quit against the Nico Monster! The book is Easyway to Quit Smoking by Allen Carr. It helped me understand why I was smoking/vaping & what was keeping me hooked. It deals much more with the emotional aspects. Hope it helps! And good luck tomorrow! I know you can do it! Look forward to what you will be gaining!
