Fat and Getting Fatter

I have always been a little voluptuous. In high school and college, in a good way. In grad school, less so. Now it's less voluptuousness, and more just fat.

I recently (in the last six months, I guess) bought a bunch of work clothes that fit me nicely, even though, of course I'd like to lose weight, so I would at least feel nice while I was doing that.

The last two weeks, I've realized that I have two pair of pants left that I don't have to unbutton while seated. Of those, one was always long, so I had to wear heels with them. I don't anymore. That's good, right?

*sob*

I'm really frustrated about it, and am not sure if I should blame it on the quitting or not. I guess it's easy to blame quitting, since it's common, and there isn't anything I can do about it. It's here to stay...the quit I mean. I just need to get back down to pre-quitting weight.

Help!!!

I have been doing Weight Watchers since January & quit smoking in September.  It is 70 days smoke free today and I have not gained any weight with my quit.  I know this is unusual, but I really and truly attribute it to sticking to my WW plan while I quit.  One of the reasons (excuses, really) I used to keep smoking was I didn't want to gain anymore weight.  I have always been "voluptuous" as well.  Since January, I have lost 66 lbs.  If you want to give WW a try, you can do it online only without having to go to  meetings (although I recommend them, they're great) and it's only like 16/month for all the online tools and you weigh yourself at home.  I'd be happy to talk to you more about it, if you're interested.  I know how this feels~ crappy.  Good luck.

You have to drink a lot of water. Only keep healthy snack's, carrot's etc. WALk, WALK, WALK !!  It's worth everything to quit smoking. I gaine too, but, then I got my butt in gear and did those thing's. I think time help's our body level out too. I'm in my 15th month now, and it's not so easy to gain weight. Don't use this as an excuse to smoke !!  You can quit, and do the thing's I said, then, work hard on losing weight when your quit is safe.   Hug's

we have to adjust our intake by 200 calories lower to maintain our prequit weight.

I wish I had magic words to offer, but my tight pants make it hard to think sometimes, lol...

I could have written your blog. Somehow I went from voluptuous to chubby to frumpy. Sigh.

I'm trying to apply the same "addiction" mindset to my eating habits. I have the choice, every time. Eating junk food isn't a reward. And so on.

Hang on, we'll get there!

Hey Brenda...I am too new to offer any advice but I can say that I maintain a wardrobe that spans several sizes because I go up and down in weight through the years...the gain time is always directly proportional to my exercise, food choices and alcohol intake...it's worth anything to be smokefree..We'll have more energy & resolve to deal with the healthy lifestyle choices because we CARE about ourselves and are proving it by not smoking...I hate gaining weight!!!! xo

Yep, I'm right there with you.  Time to start moving more.  My biggest problem is moving.  Second problem....keeping food away from my face.  Everything tastes so good now.  My smell is back and my tastebuds are loving every minute of it.  I too need to control myself.  So, starting today I will force myself to walk more.  I will start tracking my food intake.  I did weight watchers before and it did work for me.  My sister and daughter are doing atkins right now.  Which is total opposite of weight watchers.  So, I'm up in the air about what type of diet I am going to do.  I think I will just watch my food intake and calories...............Good luck to everyone struggling with weight issues.

Oh yes do I get what your saying.  I also ate everything to keep from smoking. Then at about 200 days I was at a dr.s visit and was weighed.  Oh wow what a surprise!  So now I have been on my own invented Diet. I call it the half diet.  I made a few cuts to things like no more lattes and substituted coffee instead. But mostly I just started eating half of what I usually did. Order the same food but just eat half. After a few weeks  it was no big deal and I only wanted the smaller portions. Since Sept 8 I have lost 18 lbs.  I also bought an i pod and have been walking about 5000 steps a day. It wasn't too hard to do either because I could still eat what I like.

I turned my quit skills to my weight regulation skills first with nutrition and now (yes, just now!) EXercise! I was able to apply the same NO EXCUSES steps to each part and now, in spite of smoking related lung disease, am in the BEST shape of my life! Give it time Brenda and use your DETERMINATION - never lose your FOCUS! [Now where did I hear that before????LOL!]

Same problem here...not sure what happened. I was doing WW then decided to try my moms diet she got from Dr. HUGE MISTAKE!!!  i maintained  my weight all these years, i managed to gain 15+ gained in 1 week. Been to doctors for checks with thyroid and so on. Saw Dr. Oz yesterday with that 3 day Cleanse. Thinking of doing that starting the New Year along with WW again. For right now, its more exercising 🙂
