FAMILY FUNCTIONS NOT SO DYSFUNCTIONAL NOW!

I attended my nieces b-day party today with my kids and partner. I realized how much I could actually enjoy spending time with my extended family now that I am not thinking about cigarettes the whole time. I never smoked in front of any of them and would like to think they didn't know that I had started again 3 years ago. Before at anything like that I was always thinking when and how can I smoke. Trying to think of ways to sneak away and cover the smell. With all that I couldn't really enjoy the time with them. Today was great though. Among other things this may improve my relationship with my family? This is my partners family and I have always felt like an outsider because of the smoking. They are extremely anti smoking which is why I always tried to hide it. They must have known because of the smell but it wasn't discussed. I doubt that I would have come clean anyway. Today felt really good. I'm looking forward to more situations like this to keep reminding me of some other reasons to KEEP THE QUIT!!!

I dislike people that are that severe anti-smoking because it's very judgemental, like they couldn't have an addiction. Asking you to not smoke in their house or what have you, that's fair....

I'm glad regardless you're NOT smoking and had a great party today. It's very challenging but very worth it. I'm looking forward to not freezing outside at Christmas, not sitting down and someone smelling the odor and their face turning different colors, etc.

Hey, I recognize that situation! By bf family is mormon so also very against any smoking or drinking or drinking soda...etc etc. I never smoked around them either. Just didn't like to feel eyes of judgment on me ya know. I had quit for a short time (few months) about 2 1/2 years ago too and just became a closet smoker around them after that. But now that I realize how STRONG this smell is on a smoker I am a little embarraseed! Can't BELIEVE i thought I was hiding anything! Well, now I truely am smoke free and like you i will never have to stress over when i can sneak off to take part in my embarassing dirty little habit again. Sweet Freedom!
