Dreams and difficult thoughts

Today is 105 days since I quit. This is roughly around how much time I had last time I had quit for a significant period when I gave into temptation and smoked that one cigarette—which didn’t taste good, give me that “ah” feeling or even enjoy—I journaled about it and wrote that it made my lungs feel terrible, gave me an unpleasant over stimulated feeling, and made me feel very disappointed in myself. That led to sporadically smoking and quitting for another 8 months or so. I never went back to my 1/2-1 pack a day habit during that time, but I never really quit for long either. Last night I had a dream I was smoking and woke up with a morning craving—something that hasn’t happened in a long time. I will take this as a message and remain especially vigilant.

@Thyme   You already know what happened last time, and you are determined NOT to do that again.  You already understand that smoking one will not satisfy any craving you have, because one puff always leads to another.  You learned alot this time, and you painted nails, etc. and used those distractions, so you are ahead of the "game" that nicotine plays.

Congratulations on each and every one of those 105 days, that is 3 months and some change!! Glad you came here and posted your thoughts.  You are makng great progress Thyme.  Some days are a little harder, but you are also alot smarter than the last time.  You have all you need, within you.  There is nothing in that cancer stick that you NEED.  Stay strong and don't look back.

We call them "smokemares" for a reason!  I think most of us have had them.  I had one early in my quit and was SO proud I stopped myself from lighting that cigarette!  THEN, I had one further along, sitting in a beautiful garden and not only did I smoke it, but I enjoyed every last puff of it!

Be happy and grateful when you awaken that it WAS just a dream!  Remember to use your tools if temptation hits!!!

Been quite awhile now since I have had one.  You will get there, too!  Keep going!

@Thyme Don't put too much significance into  having a dream that involved smoking.  I still have them occasionally.  I don't normally smoke in them, but come close.  But the one's where you do  actually smoke, are a real scare when you first wake up.

I believe it's normal to dream about smoking.  We have lots of memories stored in our brains that visit us  in our dreams.  Too me, this is just another memory.

Super congrats on 105 days.  This is part of the journey.  I think quitters often think this should all be behind us by now.  After all "I quit smoking".   But don't lose sight of long we smoked in comparison.

You're doing great.  As ex-smokers, remaining vigilant will always be a part of us.

Stay close.

Good reminder @Thyme on your first cig after your last quit, reading your comments I could clearly visualize my own experience with that first slip in the past. First time I've heard of smokemares, this is interesting...
