Does Nicotine dull your emotions???

I am sitting here this morning after coming back from the dentist and it hit me, Do I smile more now ? Do I laugh more. Do I really feel more? The answer is yes. I went to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned and polished because I do indeed show my teeth more theses days and wanted to share this with all the new quiters and soon to be quiters. . I have this unbelievable happiness about me that I did not have when I smoked. I really do think nicotine clouded my sense to feel alot of different emotions. I enjoy being around people more. I am able to be more patient now and have more control of my emotions than I did when I first quit smoking. I am just plain and simple enjoying my life. There are times still now  and then that the thought and I mean a small thought comes and goes away quickly at times about my addiction and learning to do everything without a cigarette, but i am doing it one step at a time and one day at a time. I just face it head on now and show  it my pretty teeth.

I am planning on doing the same thing.  They are running specials at many dentist offices around here for teeth whitening also that I plan to take advantage of.  Its funny because I noticed yesterday how much better my teeth has looked since I quit.  I am looking forward to my new smile.  🙂

And yes, I do believe cigarettes made me a little dull.  I think psychologically I never liked smoking and thought I might have been inferior to others who were not controlled by the drug.  Besides that I think I was always self conscious about smelling like an ashtray.  So now I feel so much better psychologically and socially I don't have the same fears about being around people.  There are no downsides to quitting besides the occasional craving.  But anything worth having isn't easy so yes, face it head on and show it your pretty teeth!

I don't know exactly what  nicotine does to one's emotions. I am not a physician. It is possible. What I believe is that we as non-smokers are just overall happier because we have kicked the habit. Smoking, as you know, causes a person a great deal of stress. Now with that stress gone, we are going to be much happier. Oh, and it does improve one's  smile. My teeth are MUCH whiter than they used to be!

Oh yeah! I'm not going through withdrawal 19 times a day!

I smiled at the dogwood trees yesterday - they didn't smile back, but that didn't bother me!

I think nicotine affects people differently. It makes me more antsy - maybe because I am worried about my next fix. I think it also revs up my metabolism a little, because quitting really slowed it down and I've had to make adjustments to my diet and exercise routines to keep from becoming the fat lady of the circus. I am definitely happier without cigarettes and now feel sorry for those of my friends and others who cannot give them up. Good blog. Thanks.

Kathy...not sure if smoking dulled things for me or not...but I do know that my anxiety is not as bad as it  used to be...not sure if it was the actually the smoking or the fact that I kept worrying about getting sick! Which probably added to my other anxiety issues...who knows.. What I do know is I am a bit calmer now!  Stay Strong!
