Hello All, I do not know what is going on, but for the last 2 days, I keep getting this little, I will call it a whisper, saying you can smoke if you want to, it keeps saying just one, just one. The stupid thing is I do not really want one, I just keep hearing that little whisper. I wish it would go away. Maybe it is because I am finally getting over that stupid flu/bronchitis I have had. I am so happy to be at 46 days smoke free and I do not want to be a smoker ever again. Does any one have any ideas where this is coming from!!! I need it to stop!!! It needs to go away!!! N.O.P.E.

Not One Puff Ever!!!!!!

I know this sounds dumb, but when you get the thought, just say NO, NO, NO, out loud and push the thought away, it will finally stop, it is just your mind playing with you, do not let it, you are the master of your mind peace!

It's coming from the nicotene addict deep inside you, Mine comes out everyonce in a while....but I just ignore it and tell myself NOPE and try to distract myself.....The longer I'm quit the less it happens...
Whatever you do DON"T GIVE IN !!!!!
Your doing great Linda---Keep on rocking your quit 🙂

Linda, I have it happen to me. It's like the devil is on one shoulder saying oh come on just one and my angel is on my other shoulder saying "no you can't do just one - walk away quick!!!!!.
Barbara and Charmed are right. it is your mind playing with you and you need to ignore it and distract yourself and yes keep saying no and you will win! You know you are the winner here!!!!!!!!!! IGNORE & WALK AWAY!

I read that most smokers only enjoy 1-5% the cigarettes we smoke... the rest are just auto feeds for addiction.... after we quit for a long period of time we forget the bad smokes and auto feeds and remember the 2 or 3 enjoyable cigarettes per carton we liked... soon we think that every cigarette we ever had was a "good one"
The mind can start to play games... dont give in...

Oh yes this is what happens to me and I get so damned mad! But I also know that if I do give ina and go and smoke one it is going to taste so nasty and I will be sick as a dog afterward. How can you have two opposite feelings at the same time?

Very good question Sandra, i guess Sally is right it is the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other. It is that stupid nicodeamon just trying to trick us. At least I know I am not alone with these weird issues. Thanks all for your input.

I don't think you are thinking two opposite thoughts. YOU DO want that ONE cigarette. What we don't want is to start smoking all of the cigarettes that we did before, which is inevitable with that one cigarette. Like MIchael's pont, we want the good cigarettes, that does not mean that we want to smoke. Try to remember what that one cigarette really means: a pack a day, sneaking away from family events, ALOT of money, low self-esteem, GUILT, stink!, health problems/risks, that damn cough...of course the list goes on and on. One of my new favorite quotes...Smoking is never as good as the fantasy!

My good friend who is successfully quit for over a year told me that when these thoughts come up, she would just puff up mentally and say, "Come on! You've got to be kidding me. You think THAT's gonna make me smoke?" I have only been able to do that once myself, but it worked, and it's kinda funny too.
