Did I hear her right?

37 days today. I was at work today and I saw a friend that I hadn't seen since my quit. Her being one of my smoke buddeis, and working at the same place for 7 years,I was excited to share my good news with her. When i told her that I was 37 days smoke free , she was genuinely happy for me and she asked my why I quit. I told her that turning 50 this year was a wake up call to better health and smoking had to go. I said she must surely think about it too, since she was a couple of years older than me and had smoked as long as me and she said, not really. She told me her philosophy on smoking and here it is. She said that once you quit smoking, all the clean oxygen that you pump into you wakes up any cancer cells that are dormant, whereas if you continue to smoke, they lay dormant because of all of the smoke theyare subjeted to. She said a friend of hers quit when she remarried and was dignosed with lung cancer 6 months later. She did not believe that it was going to happen if she was still smoking or not. I guess everyone has to convince themselves to why they smoke.

Huh?  Was our thought process that out of whack when we smoked?  Yep, but I'm glad we're changing.

I had some one tell me that one time when I quit.  She said her grandma and mom quit and they got cancer.  So she said she was not going to quit.  She was in her mid 30's and said she only had 1 lung because they removed so much of the other one.  She was a heavy smoker and said it did not bother her when she smoked only having 1 lung.   I know I had a weird look on my face when she told me that.  I thought she was nuttier than a fruit cake.  ha ha

CONGRATULATIONS on 37 Smoke FREE DAYS!!!

JonesCarpeDiem

You know what?

people get lung cancer who never smoked and who were never around smokers.

I had a neighbor.

she probably smoked for 20 years or more. and then quit for  20 years.

20 years  after she quit, she passed from lung cancer within 2 years.

Now I'm sure her smoking had something to do with it but neither of these scenarios

are about you or her deciding not to smoke. This is a personal decision. For your own reasons.

would you feel more alive as a smoker or do you just want to hide behind buildings.

there aren't going to be many more places to smoke than that.

correction

would you feel mor alive as a "non" smoker

Hey VirginiaLady 37 days!!!!!Congratulations on thirty seven days.

I used to tell my friends that all negative info about smoking was propaganda so the gov could tax us more. They tease me now. Addiction can help you rationalize anything.Moe

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU.

I have a friend who has explained some pretty weird ideas about why she wont quit.  I finally told her "you dont want to.. that is your decision and that is ok for you.  i'm not judging. it is just my time."

Awesome for you. Stay true to yourself first, then your friend(S/ family).

Yeah and I could get hit and killed by a car getting my mail tomorrow afternoon...why bother doing anything then?  It's ok....to each their own.  If she wants to smoke, I hope it is satisfying to her.  It is satisfying to me not to smoke.  Glad you have come this far.  Stay strong!

That's the first time I've heard keep smoking to prevent cancer.  It's a choice and I'm glad you chose not to smoke 37 days in a row.  Excellent choice!

Sounds like her nicotine receptors have captured her brain and are burning it down as we speak!  UGH!

Congratulations on your quit, Diana.

My mom died from lung cancer she was a smoker....I know e are all destined to pass we can't live forever but we can change the suffering we do while we are here. Congratulation to sticking to your quit. I have heard all the crazy reasons to keep smoking Hell I used half of them...Deb   6 months not one puff after 35+ years

That's the worse excuse to keep smoking I've eve heard but it's no crazier than many of us smoking for 30, 40 and 50+ years, is it?

I wonder if you can do the same thing with fat. Like, if I keep eating pretzel M&M's and not take a break, if the fat will remain dormant until I stop eating them and then I will gain weight????

Hmmmm....I'm not risking it...LOL!!!!

Congrats on your quit honey! Accepting your friends goofiness, is all a part of being a good friend! I am proud of you for staying strong in your quit and not giving in to such foolishness... 🐵
