37 days today. I was at work today and I saw a friend that I hadn't seen since my quit. Her being one of my smoke buddeis, and working at the same place for 7 years,I was excited to share my good news with her. When i told her that I was 37 days smoke free , she was genuinely happy for me and she asked my why I quit. I told her that turning 50 this year was a wake up call to better health and smoking had to go. I said she must surely think about it too, since she was a couple of years older than me and had smoked as long as me and she said, not really. She told me her philosophy on smoking and here it is. She said that once you quit smoking, all the clean oxygen that you pump into you wakes up any cancer cells that are dormant, whereas if you continue to smoke, they lay dormant because of all of the smoke theyare subjeted to. She said a friend of hers quit when she remarried and was dignosed with lung cancer 6 months later. She did not believe that it was going to happen if she was still smoking or not. I guess everyone has to convince themselves to why they smoke.
