Depression

Is this a normal part of quitting? I'm so pleased with how I've handled the past 12 days as a non-smoker, but today I am feeling really depressed. Any one want to prop me back up?

Hi.  Congrats, you are doing great.  Yes it is normal.  Part of the feelings are loss.  You are grieving the loss of something you thought was important to you. It probably won't last too long  .  My overall mood is much more positive and happy than when I was smoking.  Hang in there.

Can you go ride your skateboard?

Yes some quitters experience depression. I would suggest to do something that you truly enjoy that makes you happy.  This too shall pass.  Congrats on 12 days.  You are on a roll hold on tight and scream if you have to.

The suggestion of grieving sounds about right. Skateboard? hahahaha...my bones are too fragile.... but the suggestion of something that makes me happy could work. Off to try a nice soak and read.

It is normal for most - treat yourself to a little something special!  12 days is fantastic! Hang in there!  It gets better and is worth the little bit of discomfort that you go trough in the beginning.

Quitting smoking is like a roller coaster ride - with ups and downs and twists and turns.  You are experiencing a down part of the ride right now - but this, too, shall pass.

Can you maybe treat yourself with some of the money you have saved by not smoking?  Just take some time and browse a bit on the internet....even looking can be fun!

You did GOOD by blogging!  Come here anytime!

Congratulations on 12 days! Fabulous! I was depressed, but it didn't last long. I kept coming here! That always makes me feel better! You are doing great! Keep moving forward and no looking back!

Take Care!

Congrats on 12 days!  There will be days.....I have had many, and i felt as if I was missing something.  It is all part of it, and when you feel sad, do get on here like you did, a lot of people here with great advice and understanding will help you thro.  I still get sad sometimes, and in a way I think of it as a test.  I hope for the day when I feel sad and do not feel I need a cig.  You will be ok, just keep on your journey!
