Debate!!!

I had a debate last night with Ol' Nic. He seems to think I am wasting my time quitting the smoking materials.

"Why bother quitting now? Your heart is failing. Your lungs are full of holes and the air sacs are stretched out from smoking so long. You have things growing in and on your lungs. I mean, really!!!! Why bother now?" he threw out to me.

I replied, "I have already given myself the chance to live 72 days longer than I most likely would have. Yes, I do have problems moving air. It is moving though! Yes my heart is damaged and weak. It still pumps my blood though. The longer I am without you in my life, the more days I might extend my life."

He tried several other arguments, and I knocked each of them down with the same ease.

I finally told him the debate was over and walked away. His empty words and threats rolled off my back with no effect at all.

I just kept walking until his voice faded into the silence of nothingness.

Will you win your debate with Nic?

I know you can.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

I have had debates with ole nic too ! He usually attacks me from the money/ reward angle He has said to me," Big deal you saved money from quitting but where is it now ? So many bills what does it matter it all goes on something else and isn't smoking more fun ? "

Well he almost gets me but then I say " No, money is not the real reward, my freedom from you Ole Nic is the best reward of all !  218 days of freedom !

Thanks Larry ! Congrats on your quit !

Thank you for sharing.  It shows that no matter where we are in  our quit the addiction will try and play tricks. Onward Upward. Away

You are AWESOME, Larry!  You are so right that the addiction rears its ugly head because it's worked BEFORE...so glad you are here, my lungs are filled with holes too!

If I lived 1000 years, I could never discover all the wonderful gems here.

About the Author
I am a male that underwent coronary artery bypass X3 (triple) on 10/22/13 at the age of 55. I was living on about 20-30% of one coronary artery and my left heart output was only 20% to 25%. I spent a week in the hospital after surgery and went home. Then had to go back a day later for another week because I had pneumonia. Finally a few days because of a slight arythmia. All told it has been about 2 1/2 weeks. I am past the cravings by now and only have the urges to contend with. I really don't suggest that anyone quits smoking using this technique though. I'll have to carry the scars from that day for the rest of my life. The large one down the center of my chest, and the ones from several "silent" infarctions. I came that close to the next world. Never again will I subject my body to that (at one point in my life I was smoking 5 packs of cigarillos a day). I now have to say N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever) every day of my life. TheOldGoat-Joan, I miss you terribly my friend. Elder Lists Guilia's: (/blogs/Giulia-blog/2017/06/18/elders-list-ao-december-7-2016 ) or Smorgy's (Chronological Elder List)
