Yesterday I decided to quit smoking. I deceided to rely on nothing but my own willpower and my higher power to help me.  Unfortunately, I wasnt successful.  I smoked three drags off a cigarette last night I couldnt take it.  Then this morning same thing.  I have to let go of any cigarettes at all.  Becsuse I feel like eventhough it was a partial, it was still a smoke. Today Im goin to buy the gum.  Praying for strength today.

DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP!!!.

It's not always going to go perfect, don't be so hard on yourself. Buy the gum, hard candy, licorace if you like.  if your feeling the need  to pick up a cigarette log on and ask for help, if you can't do that, go for a walk. If you work, is there a person that has quit that you can turn to for support?

Just remember that you are a stronger person then you think, YOU CAN DO THIS.

I've read and heard that quitting 'cold turkey' is the way to do it; however, I could not do it that way.  I made it 3 days without anything and despite hearing that nicotine addiction does not hurt to kick...I was physically hurting.  I began using the patch, but it left red itchy blotches everywhere...now I am using the gum and trying to ease off slowly.  I have not picked up a cigarette, but I know it is very difficult not to.  My family smokes, but I make sure that I do not have any available to me.  I'm praying for your strength and that you will find the way that is best for you to quit.

Thank you so much for your kind words of support.  Im not telling anyone either because I really dont need to hear if Im not successful.  It is such a urge, really hoping to get past the first few days hump.

Its good to hear you all know what you're doing.

😞

Stopping and startiing every day is not the way to quit smoking.

But don't beat yourself up.

Please, follow the program or read the blogs or both.

Don't give yourself permission to "fail"!!  Once you quit, you have to understand that you can never pick them up again for any reason.  You can cry, scream, run, laugh, eat, jump up and down, paint, sing....anything you feel like doing....except smoke.  Read here and understand it 🙂

First of All, we don't recommend Cold Turkey - we recommend Smart Turkey - Huge Difference!

https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/blogs/SkyGirl-blog/2013/06/10/a-smart-turkey

Second, we definitely don't recommend Will Power!

https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/blogs/Thomas3.20.2010-blog/2016/02/16/why-willpower-can-never-wor...

Three, we don't believe that stuff about having to slip 8 - 10 times in order to quit! No EXcuses!

Please READ READ READ!

Prepare for those moments that you found unbearable!

Don't make it easy for those Sickerettes to find your face! Get rid of them in your entire environment! Don't beg, borrow, or buy a Sickerette!

Have a list of "What shall I do instead?" Delay, delay, delay!

Quitting never killed anybody but smoking kills more people per year than drugs, alcohol, AIDS, car crashes, homicides and suicides combined.

Get educated and start again - smarter!

Welcome to Ex

You have come to the right place if you are making the decision to commit to quit smoking.  At EX our resolve is to never smoke again.  NOPE “Not one puff ever.”  I suggest that you follow the steps on the web site pages along with reading, writing, studying, researching and blogging if you like.

This is all about you and what you are willing to do to be a nonsmoker.  If you haven’t read it or have not been informed here is a link to Allen Carr’s book, “Easy Way to Quit Smoking”.  It is an easy read suggested by the “elders” (those with 1+ yrs. quit).

Also check out www.whyquit.com.  There is a lot of additional beneficial information to read and study.  Look for Freedom From Nicotine My Journey Home and Nicotine Addiction 101.

Both were extremely helpful for me.  Stay close to the site and learn, ask questions. Education is the key to success even in quitting smoking. Read the blogs and most of all enjoy your commitment to quit smoking.

If you should need something to do here are two links that will help
