Day Three

I am working on day three.  I am not having fun.  To be honest, truly honest, once I lost the quit, each time I tried to re-start, I was rather lax about the commitment.  In the back of my head I even figured "yeah, I'll probably give in and smoke, and if I don't, woo hoo for me."  Well of course there were no woo hoos, and of course after gritting through the first couple of big bumps I did smoke each time.  This time, I am treating it like the first time.  Smoking is totally and completely NOT an option.   I am not using the patches this time.  I did the 4 weeks for each of the 3 steps, and this time, I am cold turkey*.   I do have nicotine gum that is going to be the seawall sandbag if I am headed to the cigarette store.  I haven't used any yet, but my brain has been told repeatedly that she gets a cigarette only when Never! and that to prevent that cigarette, the best she can hope for is a piece of nicotine gum.  However, I have had so much drilling in my teeth the last 3 Mondays, that all I would be able to manage is to suck on the gum.  One tooth is so sensitive to cold that my all time favorite distraction, ice water is like some Inquisition torture.  So in summary, that is my day three and SINAO.  And I can't have cigs in my hands.  No beg, no borrow, no buy.

Well Terri 3 days is good. I am proud of you.  I wish their was something I could do or say that you haven't already heard.  Bottom line it is simple.  You choose smoke or die. I remember when leaving the dentist office, I would smoke,  Now I have a partial.  All because of gum disease, created by smoking.  I wish I knew better, maybe that would have stopped me smoking sooner.   Have a great day.  Three cheers for you.  Whoop de Hoop de Hoop. Your #1 fan.

I totally agree with CP!  Three days is a WONDERFUL beginning to a smoke-free rest of your life!

Gotta try to close and bolt those windows and doors in your commitment room. Can't be any cracks where the light can even get through. Mine weren't closed tight enough and we know what happened. Now they are triple bolted and every crack and crevice has been cemented shut! It takes work, but YOU ARE WORTH IT!

I'm glad you are contemplating how you lost prior quits so it does not happen again!  Keep up the great work!  3 days is huge!  They are the 3 hardest when you go cold turkey.

You are right...it is no fun.   Just never take one puff.  Simple.  Not easy, but simple.  N.O.P.E.

You are not going COLD turkey, you are going SMART turkey...you prepared for this, you have gone over what went wrong in the past, you CAN be that happy quitter, you really are a happier person than you think you are.  That sounds really weird but you are supportive and funny and loving and you are NOT falling into an abyss, you are helping other people every day.

Smoking kills, quitting ....uh what rhymes here, bills, drills, fills, gils, hills, pills, stills...ooh I like that stills one, quitting STILLS the nagging and allows us to grow.  Grow my friend, soar above everything that has every told you that you couldn't because you CAN!
