Day One

I've been a smoker for 10 years. Now at the ripe age of 30 I feel all the negative effects that smoking has had on my body. I set a quit date for July 3rd but after one trip to the bar I broke back into my normal routine after only a couple days. This time on the 27th of July! It's an absolute must. I've applied for a health insurance plan that will be testing blood and urine they will be testing for EVERYTHING including nicotine - from everything I've read with being a long term smoker 30 days is the minimum to completely rid the nicotine from your body...gasp!

It's day one and I feel on edge - I've lived with this filthy habit for so many years that at points I'm not sure what to do with myself. There's no turning back - I honestly am ready to live a new life without cigarettes. I read a funny caption today in a story: "She acted as though this was just some annoying habit that he had, like quitting smoking." This is so true it's noting beyond annoying and I have to keep reminding myself that I will not die from this feeling of wanting to jump out of my skin, I will die if I don't go thru this withdrawal. I don't have a lot of support, and honestly would rather keep this battle to myself (with the expectation of anyone on this website of coarse;)

This is going to be tough! But I'm tougher!

Courtney - welcome to the family.  There are so many people here ready and willing to help you through this.  I too want to keep this a secret until I finally succeed in quitting (my quit date is September 1st).  But here, there is no need for secrets - these people are open and honest and have been through what we are struggling with right now.  And they won - so can't we.
