Day One

It's been over 3 hours since I last had a smoke.  Small steps, right?  I had one cig left when I got up this morning and waited 20 minutes to smoke it.  That's impressive since I would always wake up and go right for that first smoke.  I am ready to do this.  I know it'll be hard, since I saw my folks go through it in 1992.  My dad--a 3 pack a day smoker--did it on his first try.  My mom took longer.  She had to try four times before she finally quit 7 years ago.

Anyway...I did quit once before, in 2002, with the help of a hypnotist.  It was terrible for those 72 hours.  Lord, was I a horrible b****.  LOL.  I quit for 2 weeks, but it only took one for me to get hooked again.

But the 3 hours is a big step for me.  I've thrown out the ashtray, butts and empty packs.  Even took them to my trash can in the alley so I know they are gone from my home.  I am not dragging myself out into this cold to go fetch them either.

My first day I thought of in terms of morning, afternoon, three hours until bedtime, but I have to say that the first two or three hours were the ones that gave me the belief that I could make the day.  Great going so far for you.

Blogging often will help and remember, smoking is not an option - not one puff ever.

I just realized that I was three hours smoke free too!

I woke up this morning, had a cup of coffee -- smoked two cigarettes on my front porch and put my ashtray (I've been smoking outside for a few months now, it's cold and icky and it was a struggle but I was determined) in the garage.  I went in my house, waited for ten minutes and put on the patch.

We can do this.  We can do this.  WE CAN DO THIS!

NINE HOURS!!

I've had a few cravings, but so far, I've been able to defeat them with water and my lozenges.  I am looking forward to tomorrow...another day of being smoke-free.
