I woke up this morning to my quit day. This week has been full of positive anticipation for my quit date. Everything was falling into place: visited my dentist for my cleaning, stocked the cupboards with green tea, lemon, and honey. I made the appointment to get my new CPAP on my quit day. Surely a good nights sleep will help me in this process. This is the first time I have actually looked forward to quitting. I know I can do this. I have to do this. I love life and I love being active. Smoking is slowly robbing me of my joy.

I woke up to Good Friday (a nice day off of work) and made coffee instead of tea and watched the 5:00 am news. By 6:30 am, my husband had went outside to three times to smoke. I was in the midst of deep cravings. At 6:45 I put on my patch and went outside and had a smoke. It felt good in my head, my throat and lungs screamed in agony. My asthma has been terrible lately.  Not giving up even though I failed at the start. 

Lesson #1 patch it up, when I get up. Boil my tea and get moving. I can do this. I will not have another smoke today. I promise myself this.

Commitment to NOPE will set you free.  Continue with your plan. Have water close by.  Stick your head in the freezer.  Suck on a lemon.  Gum mints. Quit Kit aka Tool Box

You can do this quit believe it deep breaths and know that we're all here to help you in any way we can BUT you must believe it and stick with N.O.P.E and vigilance which will guarantee you a Smokefree Life. ....

You are prepared and you have a great attitude...but the addiction just wants to draw you in to its clutches...look at the list of 100 things to do then smoke then  next trigger/crave do something on the list instead of smoke...grit your teeth, take the bull by the horns...and make Day 1 as Day Won ...~ Colleen 137 DOF

Lower the caffiene intake for a while, it will help reduce anxiety.  I'd recommend some ginger tea, and cranberry juice this helps with detox.
Breathing exercises may help.

Breath in 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 through nose, Hold for 4.3.2.1 purse lips and blow for 11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1

Starting over right away is really good.  I can add one thing to the breathing...try blowing bubbles, you can still go outside, take that deep breath, hold it and let it out very slowly through pursed lips...if you exhale too quickly, you will not get any bubbles.  They won't hurt your lungs, they won't wreck your quit, you can DO THIS.  Remember that no crave ever killed anyone but NO ONE can say that about smoking.

 If you still haven't smoked since the one this mornig, than it's still day one. Just a little later than originally planned. What impressed me was that you were excited to quit! That's how I was! I was actually happy to put out that last cigarette. Just decide that this morning you put out your last cigarette and just keep going! Looking forward to hearing of your success!
