I loved to read Shel Silverstein's books to my daughters when they were little, and I ran across this quote from his book Falling Up:
All The Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas Layin’ In The Sun,
Talkin’ ‘Bout The Things They Woulda-Coulda-Shoulda Done…
But All Those Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas Ran Away And Hid
From One Little Did.
We all went through the woulda-coulda-shouldas as we either attempted to quit or talked ourselves out of it. We would quit after the next {fill in the blank}, we should quit but life is too {fill in the blan} right now, we could quit anytime we put our willpower to it, but now just isn't the right time. Oh, we spent a lot of time talking about what we woulda-coulda-shoulda done. Sometimes we even do it here. We would have been so much better of if we quit sooner; we could have kept quits we achieved before, but we failed; we should have seen the handwriting on the wall before we ended up wtih COPD or another related illness.
But we DID. We DID quit; we DID educate ourselves; we DID keep coming back here for support and sharing; we DID navigate the early days and the craves and we DID stack up a quit of days, weeks, months and years -- so far. And now the woulda-coulda-shouldas just don't matter any more. As Shel said "they all ran away and hid." YAY!!
Love to all of you!
