Day 6

Well yesterday staying in bed most of the day threw me off for today! I went to bed last night at 8pm and was wide awake at 11:30pm and as much as I tried I could not get back to sleep! I have noticed that I smell things better and taste things better! I am just tired but can’t fall asleep! I even went for a long walk to try to get tired enough to sleep but that didn’t work! I still get the cravings that I want to smoke but I haven’t!! My brain keeps telling me a cigarette will help but I am trying my best not to listen to it! What can I do to get more sleep??

Have you tried white noise , turning off your computer or tv two hours before bed , a  warm bath before bed, warm milk , no caffeinated drinks , reading a bit . Breathing exercises  to slow your thoughts ? ha ha guess I read yesterdays post thinking it was todays post and here you are , not sleepy today , still smoke free and still hanging in there , awesome ! Insomnia is also common with quitting smoking .. do a search in the search bar and check out what others do as well as what mayo clinic might have . I always think doing that is also a good distraction to get you through existing thoughts of smoking .

Wait, I thought you were getting too much sleep.   Things change up quickly, don't they?   Maki gave you some good ideas and I know physical activity helps me sleep and I cannot have caffeine after about 3-4pm.

Try to get back on your regular schedule.  Not easy, I know.  Try not to worry about it!  Your body doesn't think it needs it yet, so just take it a bit easy today and go to bed your regular time tonight.

Maybe drink some Sleepy Time Tea tonight, or heat up a bit of milk right before your normal bedtime.  If you are medically able to take it tonight, Benadryl has a sleepiness side effect.  If you can't sleep, don't lay there and worry about it.  Read something or do a crossword.

Remind yourself that this too will pass!

(and celebrate the return of your taste and smell!)

I’ve been drinking this golden milk and find it soothing:  https://downshiftology.com/recipes/turmeric-milk-dairy-free/

@Grammy25 I don't sleep that great anymore.  I found if I leave the TV on for a bit it keeps my mind occupied so I don't keep rethinking "everything".
