Going on Day 6
I always do well the first 5 days. Its when I think I have things under control is when I start thinking “hey, I can quit anytime, so lets smoke to that!”
Not this time though. Instead I am enjoying
1. The new found sense of SMELL...mmmm. I even get a kick out of smelling BAD things. I walked out into the yard and could actually smell my wet dogs. I can smell the detergent in the wash room and I can smell the freshly shampooed hair of my 7 year old daughter.
2. The new found sense of TASTE…sweet! Yea food tastes better but more enjoyable is that I can feel my mouth come back alive. I can tell my tongue is not sedated and I feel like toxins are exiting and leaving me with a normal mouth again.
3. The new found TIME. This use to be a big trigger for me because I did not plan on how to fill the extra free time I earned by not smoking. As of the last 6 days, I fixed my irrigation that has been broken for a year and now we are growing our lawn again, logged 250 miles on my bike as well as doubled up my help around the house to make life easier for my wife (laundry, cooking, cleaning etc). Interestingly, I discovered a second tier trigger here. I am dealing with the fact that when I complete something I feel like I need to smoke. I deal with this by drinking water and sitting down. Probably need to figure out how to deal with a better reward system.
4. The new found VIEW. I see myself and others different now. I like what I am seeing. When I see someone smoking I see the imprisonment they are facing. It reminds me that I PREFER the struggle of staying smoke free then the struggles associated with smoking and the hope of quitting.
5. The new found VOICE. I am starting to get my tone back. I still sound like a smoker but I can tell my voice is getting better. This is important for my job as communication is essential to what I do and for good or bad I am partially measured on it.

Thanks for hearing me out. Hope your enjoying your newly found benefits! Don’t forget to keep looking for them if you think you don’t have any.
