Day 55 is almost done

So I am the most shocked of anyone. Susan has quit smoking.....no way. I thought she would smoke to the grave. After all I have smoked for 31 years.....how could I quit now?

This isn't the first time I have quit but i believe , this is the last. I have tried everything that has been available to quit in the last 15 years. I have quit on hypnosis once, the patch 3 times (once for 6 months), I've cut down, used gadgets, sworn on my children even but somehow I always came back to it. I believe the reason was that I thought after quitting for a time that I could have just one cig. I'm out with friends and they are smoking ....what harm would one do?

One cig will ruin your quit....one puff will trigger your addiction. So the secret to success is to admit that I am a nicotine addict and I can never have another puff!! I have to pledge N.O.P.E (not one puff ever). I know this is exteme thinking for some and it can be a harsh thought especially for those in new quits but this is the truth. Once you are a smoker you have rewired your brain and it has to be all or none.

I always remember: I am a puff away from a pack a day.

However I also know that I feel better, I smell better, I breathe better, I am not wasting all the money, I don't have to worry about getting, having, finding my cigs. I never need to carry a lighter anymore. I don't have to seperate myself from people just to smoke. I don't have to stand in the snow, rain, heat, wind, dark of night. 🙂 I might just live to see my grandkids. Wow now that is the real deal!!!

We can do this!! Prayers for all.

This is hard but this is the best thing I have ever done for my life. Do this for yourself. You deserve to live a free life.

Susan

You are so right not one puff EVER, It is the only way to do it, WE are addicts, and an addict can never go back, or they risk everything!!!

I know ALL too well about having "just one" after quitting smoking. My husband and I had auricular therapy to quit smoking, and we quit for 5 months! However, I lost a job, and while talking with a (former) co-worker outside the shop, I had a cigarette. My husband just pulled up to pick me up, so smoked one, too, so now we are BOTH smoking again! Why were we so stupid? My husband has had two heart attacks and we certainly had no business starting smoking again. It's just a cop-out, and it is as addictive as alcohol. Once you quit, you don't DARE have even ONE, or you will find yourself back at it again!
I just joined this site tonight after hearing about it on TV. Hopefully my husband and I can quit for GOOD this time!
