Hi mediteranian,

Welcome to the EX community. Congratulations on making the decision to quit, in other words, the decision to take your life back.

Continue staying close to the blogs for support. Don't be nervous. Don't be afraid of failing. And to help you understand, there is no luck. Its about making the decision to commit.

You've got the hardest part behind you. 5 days smoke free. WTG!

Keep at it my friend. One day at a time. One hour at a time if need be.

Ditto what Patty said - you've already done it! All you have to do is stick to it. N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever!

No luck involved here.  It is TOTALLY up to you.  If you are comitted to being successful, you will be - plain and simple.  This quote from Henry Ford says it all, : If you think you can or think you can't, you're right  You CAN do this!

Remember to distract yourself through the craves.  There are lists of 114 things to do instead of smoke on my page (originally compiled by Aztec).  Take a look!

Stay close to us and ask for advice and support as you need it.  We are here for you!

If you haven't done so already, take some time to read Allen Carr's book 'Easy Way to Quit Smoking'. This will help take away some of your fear and give you a different way of looking at your quit.

I am on Day 5 as well.  I have my weak moments - BUT we made the decisions, WE have made it to Day 5 and WE CAN DO THIS!!  You are not alone.  I have learned that this community is so supportive and seeing everyones success stories has given me more courage than ever before!  Give yourself a big pat on the back for 5 days!!!  You've got this!!  Congrats to you!!

P.S.  Yesterday I struggled not with cravings really, but the hand to mouth habit.  I used my chap stick as a tool...instead of food 🙂  Every time I felt that need, I would put chapstick on.  Needless to say, my lips were super soft and hydrated yesterday! 🙂

Thanks guys, reading this really helped. I swear the first 2 days were easy compared to this. I keep drinking water, that seems to help but sometimes I'm just ready to crack. I'm on the patch and it seems to help, guess I'm just worried about what will happen when that's gone too? Maybe I'm thinking too far? Maybe i should concentrate more on one cig at the time 🙂

Worry about the patch being gone, when the patch is gone. Yes, you are overthinking that stuff.

What you are doing right now is EXciting. Think about it. You are changing your life, one hour at a time, one day at a time.

Keep yourself occupied. Have that list, mental or written, of what to do instead of smoke.

Did you download the book from Allen Carr yet? The link is above in my earlier post.

Whatever you do, continue taking your quit serious like your life depends on it, because it does.

Thanks Patty-cake, I've read the book.people swear by it but it didn't help 😞 You are absolutely right, my life does depend on it. I keep re-reading all these posts, that seems to help a lot.

Congrats on 5 days! This is going to sound crazy - but start using positive self talk - instead of "I hope I can make it."  - try saying -  "I KNOW I can make it!" You might not even totally beleive it yet - but, by saying it - even just in your head - makes a difference. Really! You said you didn't get much out of the Carr book. Have you tried the free course at:http://quitsmokingonline.com/

No matter what - stcik around!
