Day 5

Quit on Saturday the 2nd of February, 2019. Sunday was ok. Been here before so I know what to expect. What I did not expect was the constant cough. The last time I did this I took meds, gained too much weight, and picked up again. This time, cold turkey, a cough and no weight gain, and no serious cravings.  Well, there are cravings, but they last about 15 minutes and I find something to do and I'm okay again. Also not having the angry moods, which I think everyone around me appreciates.

One thing I noticed this time around...the shortness of breath and slight wheezing when I am in bed. That was what did it. I can't live like that and am not willing to gain 40 pounds and look chubby. The good news is, five days later, the wheezing is easing up, but the coughing is persisting, but it's coughing up a lot of junk so I'm actually encouraged, and I seem to be able to breath more deeply, so that's a plus.

I do a lot of lifting in cold environments at work, so the cold air makes me want to cough a lot. But that's okay. It seems to be speeding up the process. I've told all my co-workers WHY I'm coughing and they're impressed that I quit cold turkey.

The other thing I've noticed is how I perceive time differently. Seems without all those "smoke breaks" time moves more slowly. I get more things done. A task that would have taken 30 minutes thanks to a 10-15 minute smoke break, now takes half the time. It occured to me that time is perceived differently for smokers and non-smokers, and this insight was something of a revelation. Who knew?
