Drove home from work late this afternoon in the snow and it took me about an hour and was very tense. The good news is I didn't think about smoking once during that trip, and I realize now that in the past I would have been chain smoking. A small victory!
I'm definitely going to be working at home tomorrow, and tomorrow afternoon I have an appointment with a pulmonologist to see just how advanced this COPD is, what my prognosis is, and what I can to do improve my situation. I'm finding that I get winded just walking from my cube to the printer, and that's not a good sign. But I've dumped the denial, so I need to know what the facts are. I'm also looking for a diet program to start NLT March 1 because a) I don't want to blow up like a balloon and I've already put on 8 pounds in the first 47 days; and b) I think if I were to lose about 40 pounds it might help my breathing. I can't imagine doing any exercise now because I lose my breath so quickly, but I am certain that exercise would help. Of course, I'm not going to go out walking in 8 inches of snow, but hopefully the weather will break soon and I can start doing some walking.
Hope everyone stays safe, warm and smokefree.
