Day 4

I have literally spent days in bed, trying to sleep through the worst parts of my body reaching out and screaming for nicotine. I saved two cigarettes back Saturday night and left them laying on my nightstand. Something about running out completely really freaked me out. I am happy to say they both still exist and I made it without cheating, so far.

Today is the day I begin to find myself again. I have to re-introduce myself to things I enjoy doing, especially those that busy my hands. I have no idea what these things are, yet, but I am working on a plan.

Question for the rest of my life:

What do non-smokers do when they should be smoking?

Maybe think back to what you did BEFORE you started smoking?  Did you go for walks, or have hobbies, or ride your bike, or talk with friends (now, I guess, by phone!).  Is there a craft or hobby you have always wanted to try?  You can look around on YouTube for ideas and instructions to get you started.  You will have extra money to invest in something now that you aren't buying cigarettes.

Here is a list of other things to keep busy:

My advice is to get rid of those two cigarettes RIGHT NOW   .  Keeping them around (and in your face) is only giving yourself permission to fail.  If you start to panic after you have drowned them - just tell yourself there is no reason to worry because you don't DO that anymore!!

Get busy!  Hang in there!

Again I want to welcome youLaiashamus  Hi and Welcome to Ex’s ...

Day 4 quit is super...first, there is some work you can be doing in order to work through this journey.  May I suggest, you read at My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX Then, I would come here and read blogs and answer ... (this gives you knowledge about addiction and keeps you busy)...Also, get rid of all smoking paraphernalia, put water on the cigarettes...don’t let smoking be an option in your life.  Right now you and your quit are most important.  Listen to your body and what it needs since you are no longer putting all those awful chemicals in your body.  It takes time to heal.

Then keep busy...(drink water, meditate, take a walk, clean your house, take up a language, take up exercising, learn a hobby, etc.,) there is an entire world waiting...here is a good post...What is in your quit box? https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/people/RoseH/blog/2020/06/01/make-a-plan-to-quit?sr=search&search...

Keep close to the support site, we are here to help...This is not an easy journey, but with hard work, it can be done...You can do it...~ Colleen 702 DOF

My favorite when the crave and/or trigger is rough “Breathing exercises...”

The same things  I was doing minus the cigarette.  Spending time with my dog, walking, exercising, watching a movie, playing video games, cooking, working on my house/yard, etc.  It's about learning to do those things in a different way so you create new associations.

You'll find out what former smokers do other than smoke if you stick around and read, read read. Welcome to Ex. Congratultions on deciding to quit.

In order to  get used to doing anything without smoking--practice, practice, practice. And if you keep your quit to one day at a time, you don't have to deal with the impossible burden of dealing with the rest of your life smokefree. Your brain will adapt. You will too.
