Day 37.

Day 37 and doing just fine. I really havent been having any strong desires to smoke at all the last 4-5 days. I saw my grandmother at Easter dinner yesterday and I sat beside her on a chair as she lit up her cigarette and not once did I think "Wow, that would be really nice right now." Instead I sort of just grimaced as she literally coughed the smoke out of her lungs. She'd inhale, then cough maybe once or twice, and the smoke would be exhaled. It was not a pleasant sight to be honest.

Everyone also congratulated me on quitting yesterday, which was nice. Although, I hate how they all seem to make excuses for my grandmother. Sure, she's in her 70's and has been smoking for 60 years (I know...Shes an anomaly though. Somehow, even with being a pack a day smoker, she finds energy to get up at 5 AM and go to the gym...in her 70's...haha), but that doesnt mean she should die a smoker either. My Aunt was talking to me about it and goes "Well, she'd probably just get sick if she quit now...but it's good you did." I felt like saying, well, of course it's good I quit, but dont make excuses for anyone else who smokes either. There's still more than a chance that she will die of emphysema or some smoking related illness- dont act like it's okay. I also remember another family member telling me last year, when I was smoking, "Well, your grandmother wasn't equipped with all the knowledge about smoking that you have now. So it's more understandable that she smokes." So, I guess that means it doesnt matter that the information is out there now...she's already a few years ahead of me, might as well keep going. The mentality even of others amazes me. If you've been smoking for decades, then I guess it's just acceptable. *rolls eyes*

Regardless, I am happy I've quit. I also think its kind of neat now how I can pick out smoke smell on someone right away. Before I could never smell it obviously, but now I feel like a bloodhound haha. It has almost a different smell to me now than when I smoked...a lot more pungent. It's interesting haha.

Hope everyone had a great Easter if thats what you celebrate! 😛

I know what you mean about the bloodhound thing.  Church was really crowded yesterday and I had a guy plop down next to me who was a smoker.  I could smell it very strongly.  It grossed me out.  I made my husband switch seats with me!

I know what you mean. It grosses me out now too. I could smell my grandmother at least about 7 feet away from me. I was surprised the smell travelled that far, but it did!

Yep, the increased sense of smell is incredible, can smell a smoker "a mile away" now!!  Never could smell it before. . . lol!  So, glad you are protecting your QUIT. You are a wise young man and you are right about your Grandmother. You are never too old to QUIT.  Kudos to you!!!

Good for you Lee! Even when you sat next to someone who was smoking, you still didn't want it. You are also starting to realize how lame ANY excuse is to keep smoking.

It seems like everyone remembers an uncle or a grandmother that smoked until they were 80 years old....the truth is, the quality of their life is what we can't see...we may never know how much they suffer in private...or start feeling sick 20 years ahead of time...this is the old fashioned view that leads some to believe that smoking SICKORETTES is acceptable...total DENIAL...

Lee you are doing amazing!

I am right there with you on the smell being more pungent.  It seems to bother me now too.  This is ok though. We don't smoke, that is how is suppose to smell....yucky!
