Day 1 around the corner

Hi

My quit date is tomorrow.  I’ve tried many times but m hopeful for this quit.  I’m a mother & grandmother, dog owner/lover, Christian.  I love my family, traveling, knitting and I’m active in my church. Thank you all for being here.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.  I’m an 17 month lung cancer survivor who has really been struggling with quitting but I am hopeful.

Ty, Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Welcome and congratulations on your upcoming quit. I am also a Christian woman, I love my son and bulldog/all dogs too. I think that the key to doing well is to visit this site everyday and having the support you need. I’m also struggling to quit, so I think that being on this site might be the key for a successful quit.

Hi. Thank you for your response. Being a Christian adds a dose of shame to smoking for me. When was your quit date?  We can do this!

I see that you successfully quit before your surgery.  Please think about what caused you to make the decision to give up your quit and make a plan NOW what you will do differently when that same circumstance/stress confronts you again (and it probably will).

I am sorry that being hopeful is not going to be very helpful.  This is a FIGHT against a strong addiction and you will need to read, plan and be ready to give it your all to conquer it. I hope you will  get out your tools, make a plan which of them you will use when it gets tough....

Let us know how we can help!

Hi and Welcome to Ex’s @Lisa308

Glad you found our site…I am glad you picked a quit date…now you can take the time and plan for that day, like no other.

You can do this… Even though this isn’t an easy journey, it is definitely doable.

Please be sure to read at https://www.becomeanex.org/my-ex-plan/ there you will make a quit date (usually in 2 weeks in order to plan), also, there you will plan for your quit date like no other.  During this time you will decide all the things you will do in place of smoking.  Here is a list to get you started.  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/t5/Journals-Blogs/101-Things-to-Do-Instead-of-Smoke/ba-p/1028319

Lastly, come to the support site often and blog for help, your feelings, progress, etc., and/or also read other’s blogs and encourage them on this journey.  It is a group effort.

Remember to Breath. (See the breathing exercise below)

I think it would be great to have a smoking buddy that you can go through this with.  You guys can check on each other and strengthen each other.  Quit Day 106.  Also, read Allen Carr's Easyway.  I also am a Christian and have been vocal as to how I leaned on God and wouldn't be nicotine free without Him.  God bless each of you on your quit.  Be strong.  Be stubborn.

@Lisa308 Welcome to the Ex . Congrats on the first day of your journey.

In addition to a quit date, some aids, and smoking cessation class, I was lucky to find the Ex a week prior to my quit.  I leaned about nicotine addiction and that I need to a plan to cope with cravings, triggers, etc.   I skipped these steps in the past and was never successful.  And having the support of fellow quitters saved my quit several times early on.

With knowledge and support, you can do this too.   We're here to share you're journey.  We've been there, so we know what it takes to be successful.   Work and commitment will get you where you want to be - an ex-smoker .

This link is a great place to start:

Also, consider taking the Daily Pledge to stay on track one day at a time.  Celebrating with you today and many milestones to come.

Stay busy and stay close.

Happy New Year
