Reasons to not smoke:
saving money
saving your lungs
not having to eventually drag around an oxygen machine/tank while wearing a plastic tube up your nose
having the freedom to go wherever you want and not worry about where there's a smoking section
no longer being a slave to smoking
no more coughing
no more raspy breathing
taking a deep breath without coughing
no more nicotine stains on your walls, windows or pictures
you won't stink
your home won't stink
your car won't stink
food tastes better
you get a keener sense of smell back
you won't litter anymore
you'll feel more relaxed
you'll feel more confident
and those are just a few reasons!
There are millions more!

The first day is always hard, but once you get past it, it only gets better. No matter how corny you might think your list is, it is YOURS and you know why you picked those reasons. I have a list also, and without it I'm not sure how else I could have made it this far. Of course, my #1 reason is my grandma who died of lung cancer.. so just thinking about her helps a lot. You can do it!!!

you do not want a cigarette. The addiction you have wants nicotine. Deep breaths, change of scenery, a nap...whatever it takes to get you thru one day - or even one minute- at a time. Remember: a crave will pass whether you smoke or not. Only you can choose how to handle it. Have faith...it gets better. Honest. DO NOT let that nicodemon win! You are better than that!!

DON'T LET THEM WIN!!! you deserve to stop smoking. This is very normal and you'll have good days and bad days, but it will pass, I promise. I'm at 300 days and I started like you, one day at a time. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!!

Thanks to all of you....I really needed that...it's hard to talk to my friends because they are all smokers. Oh my, I already feel like the outcast...I guess what I feel is that there was solidarity in a group of smokers that was like no other....oH my....but thank all you for the words of encouragement!!!

Poor thing. Just keep breathing-it will go away. Everytime I get like that I just think of all of the years I am adding to my life that are going to be so great in comparison to smoking a stupid cig. Stay strong!

Very hard...I know exactly what you mean. I am on my 14th day and I still think cigarrettes all day long. I've heard and read that that goes away with time. Just try to think and convince yourself that you never smoked, why are you thinking about cigarrettes when you have never smoked....It's probably the hardest thing we'll ever do and we may not see it now, but it will definitely be the most rewarding. Keep it up. Don't let this damaging habit control your life anymore that it already has. All my strength to you and to all of us trying to get rid of it.
