Hello and welcome!  Glad the blogs are back up so we can all participate with one another again. The more you know about the nicotine addiction the more likely your success. So read as much as you can. IN addition to http://quitsmokingonline.com/ this site http://www.whyquit.com/joel/dayzero.htm also offer tons of info. Congratulations on making the decision to quit. Remember to drink lots of water and juice in the beginning days. In fact if you scroll down about half way on the whyquit site above you'll see what to expect in the beginning.  You may want to check that out!  Best wishes and come back often to the blogs to let us know how you are doing. Hi Joanne,

Welcome to the group. I read a lot on the sites Maggie has recommended, using them as re-inforcement to prove to myself that I am not actually giving up anything other than the right to pay money to slowly poison myself. Knowing I am not giving up anything, but moving toward a better lifestyle is very liberating.

My first day was only 9 days ago smoke free days ago. I did what the sites suggested, drank juice etc. i also went to bed early. I put the boys to bed at 8pm and said to my wife - thats it im going to bed. It was a Saturday night, my wife said "what, why" - so I said I can either sit around here thinking about smoking for another 3 hours or just sleep and get the first bl*&dy day over with. Everyone has to get through that first day somehow.

look after yourself

Welcome to the site! You are in the right place! You can do this! I quit after 40 years - and many others here have also! I agree about quitsmokingonline.com - great place to read about the addiction. Keep coming here - reading and blogging. Congratulations on your decision to quit!

All right another one! Yea we'll get um all, I like the point about paying someone to slowly poison ourselves!  So true!

Another good site to got to is quitmeter.com.  It tracks how many cigs you haven't smoked and how much you have saved.  Hey, if you smoked 2 packs a day, in a year you could take a real nice vacation!

I have quit a lot of times (I've made it 3 months), this time is 8 days ago(and feels soooooo good).  I got ANOTHER cold and it went straight to my chest.  It is so easy to let little things bug you for the excuse to go back.  It is all a waste of time, money, health.  It ain't easy, but man is it ever worth it!!!  Stay strong, stay here and it is all possible.  Yeah, when I lost my quit last Spring, I didn't stay here and I lost my way.  Even if you slip, this site has more support to get you back than anywhere.
