Smoked about five cigarettes without tracking. Did stop and thought about different thing I can do. Going to keep practicing. What do you think, should I wear the nic patch now to keep the craving down so I can do what I need to do easier?

If you put the patch on you can not smoke.  Okay so this is the thing.  Either you are going to not smoke and wear the patch or just smoke. Can not do both.  I am sure the instructions explained that.   Now that you  have thought about what to do.  The next time you will be ready to do it.  Have you been reading the material in reference to quitting? I myself would not consider it cheating if you FORGOT to track your smoking.  Follow the plan that you have decided to use.

"Begin using NicoDerm CQ on your quit day.    .....The FDA has determined that there are no significant concerns with using NRT products like NicoDerm CQ at the same time as another nicotine-containing product like a cigarette."  https://www.nicodermcq.com/faq.html

"should I wear the nic patch now to keep the craving down so I can do what I need to do easier?"

No.  Put a band aid over your mouth to keep from cheating.

No patch unless you commit to NO SMOKING!  It is really dangerous.  One or the other and you have to stick with your plan.

Where did those sickerettes come from? Why do you continue to have them in your environment and easily available? Make it very, very hard to obtain a cig and even more hard to get a lighter or match! Then you would give yourself more time to turn on your Self Control instead of falling for the Addictive pull.

You cannot smoke with a patch - that's for sure!

How many cigarettes a day were you smoking?

JonesCarpeDiem

what strength patch?

Can't give you an answer til I know how much nicotine you were gettiing before you started the patch.

I not sure how many I smoked but it was over ten. My tracker on my mobile is not saving so I can count them. I Think I should start using pen and paper. I use the 14mg to start but I have some 7mgs.
JonesCarpeDiem

each cigarette delivers 1 milligram.

You sort of want to look at it from a perspective of,

"If I'm getting the same amount of nicotine as I was when I was smoking, (perhaps more slowly so you aren't getting the instant release like a cigarette gives you, ) it's maybe not the nicotine that's making me smoke but more the habit of smoking itself."

The habit part has to be unlearned Priscilla and unlearning something we've done so long and so often takes time.

If you are serious about this, you need to accept and understand this is going to take some time.

Priscilla, I suspect some people are thinking that you've already quit and cheated on the quit.  I believe this is not the case.  Your quit date was set three weeks from July 22nd, which would make it Aug. 12th?  You've just cheated on the tracking aspect of your prep work.  Am I correct?  That's why I put the information above.  The Nicoderm people say not to put on a patch until you quit smoking.  I've never used the patch, so others will have more knowledge in that area than I.  I just wanted to give you the latest information from the Gov't. CDC site.
