Challenge #1

I made it through Hell Week fairly easily.  I know me and I know that Heck Week is usually more difficult.  Last week didn't hold many challenges that would stress me out and cause me to smoke.  This week is starting off with...

Challenge #1

  • Found head lice on my daughter.

UGH! Nothing like finding it at 8:00 on a Sunday night.  Had to rush my husband to the drug store to get the required stuff to treat it.  This happened once before, and it was found at the exact same time on a Sunday.  However, last time, I went to the store instead of my husband, so that I could sneak a smoke while at the store.  This time, I made him go.  I didn't use the trip to the store as a good excuse to sneak a smoke. I was strong.  I can only hope that the rest of Heck Week will be good to me (and everyone else)

Good for you for changing up what might have been a temptation!!!

I went through the lice drill, too - only it was in the winter - and my girls kept their winter coats (and hats!) on a clothes tree - it ALL had to be washed - and then all the bedding including blankets and comforters, and pillows and pillow cases and the clothing they had worn that week......and it was a weeknight - so I had to get treatments done on both girls and have the bedding done and back in place so they could sleep - and coats/hats had to be done before they needed them the next morning.  I think I was up all night - then to work the next day.

Enough to make you smoke!  Glad you didn't!!!

Challenge #2 - Change your language so you think of things differently. Seems like a simple thing, but it makes a world of difference. Observe:

stress me out and cause me to smoke.

Change that idea to "give me an opportunity to say I DON'T SMOKE ANYMORE."

See if it feels better.

I went through that when our daughter was in second grade and I had just had shoulder surgery.  Everything had to be washed, all stuffed animals had to be put into plastic bags and isolated in the attic, her hair (which is very thick and almost at her waist) had to be washed and combed with a very fine tooth comb (came with the lice kit).  She had to be checked for nits every day for several days.  I sobbed throughout that misery and she cried like she felt like Typhoid Mary.  The lice kept returning to the classroom to different kids.  I researched lice treatment and all of the wive's tales about them.  I wrote a pamphlet for parents who were returning their kids to school too early and without the mandatory nit checks.  Since this kept recurring, I reported the school to the Health Department.  The school asked me if they could reproduce my pamphlet to hand out and I said absolutely, I felt that if everyone really followed through, the issue would be over.  It was very successful and very stressful. You are doing beautifully!  Congratulations!

Good job not going to the store.  It's definately a challenge, but you've proved yourself stronger!

My two girls brought lice home from school too, both had long thick hair, what a night mare!
