Busy stressful weekend but still smoke free

Hello everyone,

It was a week ago tomorrow that I started my quit and that my father got real sick and ended up in the hospital. My first reaction last Monday morning was to smoke but so glad I came here and posted and did not do it!!

This has been a crazy week taking care of my father who is home now!! but still very sick. As I see him short of breath from the chemo and drugs I am glad that I am not smoking now. I am also glad that when I am near him and give him hugs that I don't have to worry that I stink!!

I wanted to get on here all weekend and post but this is the first chance I have had. I have kept in touch with a few people from here and another friend who knows I have quit. I picked up a great tip from Braveheart about distraction instead of having an internal argument when I have an urge. This tip is perfect for me!!

So thank you everyone for being here!! Have a great week!!

Pam

Keep looking on the positive side of quitting and you'll do well! You've had a lot of stress and are doing fantastic!  Stay as close as you can to the site and if you have thoughts of smoking, acknowledge the thought/memory and move on.  Even physically at times, take a walk outside, move to another room, make a bed, get a glass of water.  Remind yourself of all the things you're grateful for now that you've quit, just like you did when you noted how happy you are to hug your Dad and not worry that you stink!

Take Care!

Even with all life's challenges, you are DOING this --- and doing it well.  Keep thinking of all the positive things about not smoking, and stay strong in your commitment to it!

Keep doing whatever it is that you're doing, because it's obviously working!  Congratulations!

Great job!  I too had a challenging weekend with triggers, but did not smoke.  It's day 9 for me and really feeling like I am going to QUIT permanently!  I also like to visualize and emphasize the positive and healthy changes taking place in my body and for the people around me!

Have a good week and I hope your father has a speedy and full recovery!

Good to hear you are protecting your quit! Maybe you or Braveheart would like to share that tip!?! Or direct others to where they might find it? Congrats on making it through this very stressful period!

Congrats on just about one week! Great job! And - you are taking such good care of your dad - how wonderful. Remember - smoking does not solve any problem and the cycle of addiction only causes stress - it does nothing to help end stress. Really! Take care!!

So glad your father is home and getting tender loving care! Also glad you are giving that same TLC to yourself by honoring your decision to be free even in the face of difficulty! xo

Hi Pam!  I remember another quitter friend from FFS who used to tell us that when we do not smoke in the face of stress that we are building up our quit muscle.  Yours is getting real strong!!
