Ever caught the couch on fire?

Had to call the fire department in the middle of the night because of it?

Yep on both counts.

The US Fire Administration reports. Every year, almost 1,000 smokers and non-smokers are killed in home fires caused by cigarettes and other smoking materials. Another reason to stay smoke FREE!

That's terrifying.  I had no idea the statistics were that high.

Oh, I never caught the couch on fire or had to call the fire department in the middle of the night.  I had a no smoking in the house rule in place forever.  My son did not adhere to that rule though and I found a rather large hole in his comforter and blanket and...well, let's just say that the UGLY MOTHER came out, the one of legends.  She does not make many appearances but when she does...it is not forgettable.

It was a roommates couch . Dropped my cherry down inside it and was too drunk to notice. Didn't catch fire until 3am.

I can't say that I have done that. I never smoked in my house though either.

Glad you and your friend were ok.....it's scary how long it takes for furniture to burn. This is why nobody should smoke in bed, by the time the mattress catches fire, the victim is sound asleep.....

I've lived in this house since '93, and never smoked in it......but b4 that I use to smoke in my old house.....scary stuff

Oh Moody, I did laugh and it was wonderful! Then I thought..that Moody still has some bawdy going on soI bet her husband still thinks shes smokin hot.

Life is full of sadness that we can't stop or control. Making someone smile and laugh is the best thing we can give.

About the Author
Hello, My name is Dale. I was quit 18 months before joining this site and had participated on another site during that time. I learned a lot there and brought it with me. I joined this site the first week of August 2008. I didn't pressure myself to quit. HOW I QUIT I didn't count, I didn't deny myself to get started. When I considered quitting (at a friends request to influence his brother to quit), I simply told myself to wait a little longer. No denial, nothing painful. After 4 weeks I was down to 5 cigarettes from a pack a day. The strength came from proving to myself, I didn't need to smoke because I normally would have smoked. Simple yes? I bought the patch. I forgot to put one on on the 4th day. I needed it the next day but the following week I forgot two days in a row I put one in my wallet with a promise to myself that I would slap it on and wait an hour rather than smoke. It rode in my wallet my first year. There's nothing keeping any of you from doing this. It doesn't cost a dime. This is about unlearning something you've done for a long time. The nicotine isn't the hard part. Disconnecting from the psychological pull, the memories and connected emotions is. :-) Time is the healer.
