Boredom!!!

I've just joined and my quite date is 1st August.

I've just realised that my reason for smoking is simply boredom.  When I'm busy at work I tend not to smoke so much so I may have as few as 2 or 3 cigarettes.  At home is the killer!  I may smoke as much as 7.  The awful thing is that I don't even have strong urges to reach for a cigarette, I simply have a wicked, useless indulgence.  Like DarahDawn, I have just one and before I realise it I've had a few more.

I'm hoping once I get back in the gym (I haven't been in about 5 months) I can re-focus and concentrate on a healthy lifestyle.  What I require is the motivation to get up and go!!  I'm confident that linking with people trying to quit smoking will give me the determination I need to not deliberately harm myself by continuing with this nasty habit.

For myself the boredom cigarette was the easiest ones to cut out. There are so many things you can do with your hands to change the subject of smoking.

Get yourself deep into exercise it will give you the feel good hormones or brain chemicals . YOu don't need that deadly dopamine delivery system anymore. get up and move and stay busy. Make a list of all the things you can do instead.

if all else fails ,get up and walk around the block.

Thank you.  I've just read a very inspirationaly experience by KC who, like me, has worked out for years yet was still a light smoker but has not been nicotine-free for one month.

This site is great!  Looks like I'm going to have all the support I need.

Thanks again!!

You're almost there. You KNOW its damaging you. You just need to love yourself enough to let go of them. They are NOT your friend or comfort they are life draining cancer feeding smelly dummies and YOU don't need them. Get to the gym as fast as you can, get out of the places and away from the people where smoking grabs you. Stay focussed in your mind on being clean, healthy and smoke free and keep fighting it, Theres a good aid here, use the quit plan and keep distancing yourself from each cigarette, the cravings pass. get some medication if you have to, but do it. It WILL be the best thing you EVER did for yourself and YOU DESERVE that.. We are all always here to keep supporting you minute by minute, hour by hour day by day. you CAN do it.x
