Back on Day One....

Hey EXers!

Yep, you figured it out...the bunch of sleuths that you are....I picked up the sticks of death again & dabbled in the darkside for a couple of months....Well, I think I should know better by now...but invariably this relentless addiction catches me during those pitty pot moments & hammers away in my head...lying and telling me that it won't hurt to smoke just a couple...then months later, I come back here with my knuckles dragging and bleeding...then I get the dubious luxury of experiencing day one...all over again.

So here I am....again.  Nothing to say except thank you in advance and here's to seeing my crusty old face on here again.

Welcome back, Pops!  You had a lot of people worried.  I really hope this is your LAST day one.  I was worried about how the shutdown was affecting you.  Do update us on Mac and Cheese or have they run away?

It's really good to "see" you.

Hugs,

Ellen

Hi Pops!

Sorry to hear you had a relapse! But take it from me. Don't give up giving up. You can always ask yourself What was your reason for it? What am I going to do next time an urge happens? You can always get back on the horse and stick to it!

Good luck!

Pops Honesty Pops, I was worried when you left, but never did I think you went back to smoking after almost dying.  Not sure what to say, but some tough love, to a tough biker, It’s all up to YOU...~ Colleen 585 DOF

Thanks for the welcome back sweetplt‌.  I've been tough enough on me, and let's not forget just how tough the nicotine has been....it's time to roll up the sleeves and get it rolling again...

Thanks Christine13‌, yep Mac & Cheese are doing well, except that they don't like the new litter that I changed to..the lightweight stuff.  They have been leaving me some gifts just outside the box lately....Onery little chits that they are....so I'm guessing that I will have to go back to their original litter....(Fresh Step) but that stuff is like mortar after the pee in it...grrrr

So it's on with day two!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!!

Glad to "see" you again, Pops.  I admire your courage to come back...I was a member of the "old" EX over 10 years ago and couldn't keep a quit and got so ashamed I didn't go back.  Oh well, what's past is past and it takes what it takes.  Some of us take longer.  I definitely know the "poor me" relapses--that's what ALL mine were.

Looking forward to your posts...missed you and am so glad that you're OK, you're just an addict .

Congratulations, Pops. I use World’s Best Litter & it clumps so tightly l can just scoop it out & flush it...yeah, it’s flushable. I scoop it several times a day & empty & clean the box about once a month. It was recommended to me by another cat person.

Just a thought.

Well, you know, watch out for the "threes"....the wisdom of repetitive failure that I'm glad to share. At least that's where I stumbled almost every time:  3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months.  I'm gonna be really wary of year three

Thanks Mike.n.Atlanta‌!  That's all I can do...as long as I'm in here trying...there's hope.  It's when I'm outside smoking and being stubborn about facing the reality that every cigarette I light up is literally stealing precious time from what little life I have left to live.  I'm coming closer each day to the last day of my life...and so I'd better start doing my part by extending that time frame as much as humanly possible.  That starts by admitting that I can't do this alone.

Yep, thanks.  I just put ten pounds of the Fresh Step in their box (on top of the lightweight stuff), and they are back to being normal and comfortable using their litter now...thank God for that...I so do NOT like getting up to clean up cat mess.  I love em...but that's when my patience is being stretched to the limit.  And let's not forget...I'm on day two, and they could very possibly end up in a pillow case if they aren't careful...(just kidding)...So I thought that I would be on day 3 today, since I'm wearing my third patch, but according to the quit clock (let's all bow our heads and give praise to the great quit clock of Be an Ex...), I am still on day 2.  I am not going to argue about it.  The important thing is, I'm not smoking & that is all that matters today...

Oh boy can l relate to cleaning up after cats. Not my favorite part of our relationship! They are fun though & l can’t imagine being without them. Happy day 2/3!

About the Author
Hi, and thanks for stopping by to read my page....My name is Ken Bishop...aka, Pops. I am a stubborn older addict of nicotine....I have quit on numerous occasions in the past, and have experienced great rewards as a direct result of not ingesting deadly toxins into my bloodstream. One of the curses of having a strong constitution that seems to be able to withstand much more than others can...is this...my body would still be able to move around, and get things accomplished even after I was poisoned by the harmful effects of nicotine addiction. Eventually, the harm became so significant, that not even I, with all of my denial...could avoid the truth that to continue to smoke, would most assuredly be the death of me, and in short order as well. On Sept 1st, of 2018...I found myself in a rehab facility for alcohol abuse, and came very near death. I quit messing around, and had a deep and moving spiritual encounter, and have remained sober without one single urge to pick up a drink since. That was after consuming copious amounts of booze for many years in the past. After a short while.. I asked for spiritual help from my creator to make it possible for me to get the same amount of conviction towards finally being able to successfully put down nicotine once and for all...As of....(September 14th, 2019)...I have 17 days of living smokefree! Woo Hoo!!! Friends and family are all very proud and happy for me. They have asked me what I thought was the turning point, after having experienced so many failed attempts before. I simply reply, "I took the God Shot". xoxoxo Pops update: in Dec of 19 when the stock market started going nuts...I used that as an excuse to start smoking again. I see-sawed back and forth for severa months, and when the COVID crisis hit, I simply lost all desire to be smokefree...I was going to smoke & that was final. Well, as always...the pains of excessive injestion of nicotine into my blood stream...(one puff is all it takes) started affecting my everyday life again...I knew I had to quit placating my inner child and grow up and accept a life without nicotine. The normal person would read this and say well duh...finally he's getting it. But the normally addicted nicotine addict would understand...weird huh? So now I'm back with a new quit date of July 8th, 2020 & am hoping that I can accept that as a perfect quit date that does not need to be changed. Thanks for reading and good luck to you in your quit journey. Pops w 4 DOF!
