Back Again

Hi Friends.  I am back.  In April of 2013, I quit smoking.  I quit for six months, but got stressed over schoolwork, stopped for gas and caved and bought a pack of cigarettes.  That led to another pack and within a month I was back to my pack a day habit.  I was too embarrassed to tell all of you about it, so I quit coming onto this website.  I have set another quit date and will quit with the lozenges again.  I am determined to succeed this time for the rest of my life.  My daughter went so far as to buy me 30 boxes of lozenges.  She said that would be enough for the entire quit.  I can be very stupid.  I am not sure why I went back to smoking.  I felt better, I could walk up stairs without losing my breath, it was a dumb move.  If anyone has any suggestions, please, please write to me.  I am willing to try anything to give up this dirty, expensive habit.  Ruta

Stick with this site, go to jonescarp's page and read about what to expect in your quit. I am coming up on six months and I would be completely HORRIFIED if I smoked again. I smoked for 47 years which I suspect is well over the number of years you have been alive. The biggest thing I can suggest is to educate yourself about addiction and smoking, set your date and KEEP it, don't let yourself make excuses.  Smoking does not relieve stress, it causes it, smoking does not help anything...it causes health problems, it can do nothing FOR you but it can do lots TO you.

Read the blogs, communicate with people, listen to the elders (I am elderly but not an elder).  Message with people you connect with, have a "buddy" and when you quit..throw away every single cigarette and reminder of cigarettes that are in your house...make it a ceremony, soak them down and tear them apart.  No lighters, no ashtrays, no smoking reminders and if you smoke in the house, stop that today.  There is no reason to smoke inside.  Make smoking inconvenient.

We are here but we cannot quit FOR you...that's up to you.

Peace, Ellen

Thank you Ellen.  I know it is up to me.  You started smoking when I was 7 years old.  I am grandma back at school and starting a new exciting career.  Thank you for your words of wisdom.  I am determined to "make it" this time.  I hate failure and will do it this time.

Peace,

Ruta

Glad you're back, Ruta.  Suggestions:  do your homework.  Daily.  Plump up your motivation by reading as much as you can.  Hang out on the Elder's pages and read their blogs top to bottom.  We want you to become a member of the 6% club, not the six month club.  Quitting has to become a priority in your life.  Because that's what it takes.  All your focus and time needs to be on it as much as possible.  Work hard and persevere.  And SMILE.  It's an amazing journey of self discovery.

Don't beat yourself up to much. keep trying. Do go to Dale's  site and read about your quit especially during your first six months. I myself slipped during my fifth month. What a heart ache. It's best to get back on the horse if you slip or have lifelines to help you get thru a really bad withdrawal.

Welcome back.  I slipped many many times before my forever quit that I'm on now.  You sound determined.  That's what it takes.

Welcome home! We left the light on every night!

Now a little does of reality! Our bodies follow what our minds tell them! You have to change some of you thinking!

EXample: (your own words) I am willing to try anything to give up this dirty, expensive habit.

#1. You do not have a dirty, expensive habit! You have a nasty killer addiction! Face that and know what you have to overcome! Then look at the success stories all around you! We have done this and there is no reason that you can't!

#2. "...willing to try anything" will not get the job done! Be willing to do anything to win! Bobby Knight, one of the all time great basketball coaches, is quoted as saying " I do not want players who say they have the will to win! Everybody wants to win. Give me the players who have the will to prepare to win!"

Prepare to win your Freedom from this addiction! Prepare to break the chains of slavery to nicotine! You can do this! We will help!

Good you are back. What happened is happened. Forget it. Let us not get into the details of why did i started again !. Leave it there.

Start again with confidence. It is mind game altogether. It is good if you can read Alan Carr's book on quick smoking. NOPE is the key. No one puff ever.....remember, remember, remember.

The temptation will come, its for sure to come again and again. Hence stayfing firm on quit is the only thing quiter has to do.  11 times quit and start again, is the average time i ready on this blog sometime....so why worry so much.

Join the group, the people on this site, and start the journey. Do not prolong more.....the Nicodemon will stay fit in brain if you postpone to do so.

All the best.
