BAD Weekend

Had a horrible weekend.  I have 6 days until my quit date.  Little nervous.  I am finding it hard to function at work.  I cannot believe what a hold this has on me! I am getting on the site more than I was, I got my patches. Sometimes feel like I am losing hope and though I would be further along with this already.  Am I trying to rush it or not doing what I am supposed to be doing?

Sometimes the fear of the unknown is worse than the reality. What if you moved up your quit date and took control of your quit?  Maybe that will help you feel victorious....and, quitting is about control. It's about winning. It's about letting go and trusting yourself. It's about not giving up. It's a precious gift to be protected, and something to look forward to, not something to fear. Quitting is hard, but not impossible. Tackle day 1, the 2, then 3....just one step at a time.

You really can do it, and we really are here to help

Fear is your second biggest enemy...addiction is your FIRST.

I had some anxiety prior to my quit-but more that that, I was determined to do it. I was a closet smoker to some (ok-they knew I smoked, we just pretended I didn't). I told those people of my quit date and stuck to it. I wanted to be held accountable for going my thru with this-and it worked. So yes, I was anxious, but I was also determined. Find what motivates you-believe in yourself. This is doable and surprisingly, not as bad as I thought it would be. This site is my greatest support and it can be yours too! I'm betting you can do this!

I had many failed quits so not sure if I should be giving advice but I didn't really set a specific date. I would quit for a few days then fail, and repeat. It was always in the back of my mind to quit. I just kept trying each day and one of the day's finally stuck and now I'm 1 year and 4 months quit. I say when you have no more cigarrettes in your current pack, that should be your quit date.

if I may, slap that patch on and go.  Jump in feet first.  Throw those cigarettes away.  Just do it.  We've given you loads and loads of information, reading materials, videos.  If you find you have bad dreams with the patch (which I never did, I had vivid, wonderful, action packed dreams), then take it off when you go to bed.  I know when I set that quit date, I was like you and panicked two days before and then set it back.  that went on for three weeks.  finally I said, that's it, enough of this already, slapped the patch on, went day by day, did a lot of nope, nope, nope.  Kept super busy.  Knew the craving (nicotine fit) would only last for about 5 to 10 minutes.  Went about my day........ rinse and repeat.  It only lasted about 3 weeks or so.  For some people it lasts only 2 weeks, some a week.  everybody is different.  there is no precise timeline.  there's an approximate timeline.  but this is a process, this is an evolving journey of discovery, relearning old habits and rituals, unlearning what we did for so many years.  You can do this..... believe in yourself

Hi Kristen,

That's what I am worried about, failing, but I can't fail if I keep trying right? I know this is going to happen, I just haven't taken control yet I think.  The doubts and worries take over sometimes.  The more I read and get on this site however, the more empowered I feel, hearing so many people's stories.  Thank You!!!

Hi Lori,

I am fighting with myself! lol  Keeping super busy at work will be no problem!  It's the weekends I need to get myself out of the fog of a bit of depression I am going through and motivate myself to get up and do my separation ideas.  I WILL do this.  Just getting over this initial.....whatever I am feeling.  Thank you so much for all the information and advice!  It really helps.

Jodie,

Has someone given you the link to the "The Easy Way"  by Allan Carr?  That is a great fast read and will change the way you think about smoking.  I copied the link below.  First time doing that so I am not sure if it will work!  LOL

Kristen,

Yes, someone sent it the first day I got on the site but the format changed in that time so I couldn't find it again.  lol  Thank you for sending that to me.  It looks like it worked.  Feeling a little better, I have 4 days until my quit date.  Trying to change my outlook on it to not being scared of it, but being excited about the change for the better!!
