I haven’t been down the path far enough to know all the answers, but here's a little something I’ve discovered about having a 200-day-old Quit: After nurturing it, protecting it, and educating it - all with little pieces of your soul -, it reaches a point where it has the strength to step a little outside of you. It grows up enough to want to partner with you in its own survival and care. It can figure a few things out and remind you what’s best for itself.
How amazing is that?!
But, it gets more amazing still, because a maturing Quit can start to value relationships outside of the one it has with you. It can become (partly) a force within other people’s Quits, too. It can resonate with other Quits, and it can share with these Quits what it was given by you, and it can learn from what other Quits have to give.
Your Quit is strictly yours, of course, but it can be friends with my Quit. And his Quit. And her Quit. And their Quits.
At 200, I’m realizing that Quits can grow up to be something much bigger than ourselves, and thank goodness for that. Because one day, when we need it most, it would be amazing if that collective and interconnected Quit of ours - the one we lovingly raised in a village of Quits - stood up for us in a time of distress and said, “Stand back. I know what to do, and I’ve got your back. We have your back.”
I know it’s true, because my scrappy lil’ Quit’s already done that for me.
A maturing Quit has so much to show you, my friends, so please be patient long enough to see it for yourselves.
