Anxiety is a side effect of quitting. Just give yourself a break, go for a walk and get rid of that pent up energy!

Stretching is also a great way to relieve the stree and tension that results from quitting. Tyrit - you will be pleasantly surprised. Hang in there. You can do this!

Thanks everyone! I've been talking to my councelor about this and she suggested medication...

The only thing I have right now is this powder stuff called "Calm". It's magnesium powder.
It seemed to take off the edge a bit!

Well, I'm on day 1 and 10 hrs and yes, I know exactly what you are saying.  I was driving down the road, towing my horse trailer and all of a sudden, I started shaking and thought I was going to pass out.  Recovered from that with deep breaths and then, while riding said horse, started shaking again.  Got off horse and went home.

Now?  I just want to smack somebody.  Deep breaths aren't helping and the cig thoughts are very strong in my mind.  Damn patch won't stay on good and I just want to lay down and go to sleep till the cravings are done.  Have to go away in an hour, otherwise I would just lay down.

Let's all stick together!  We CAN do this!!!

You may need some more education about this addiction. I really learned a lot at www.quitsmokingonline.com - it really helped me - that plus Allen Carr's book - The Easy Way to Stop Smoking. Plus stay here and keep blogging!

Take care!

I do have that book and it helped some...

I have anxiety issues (hence why I'm going to a councelor). I talked to her about my smoking and she said she was going to help me come up with a plan to quit.

Anxiety is a side effect--depending on what time of day/night there are the usual ways to overcome it, breathing, walking, if you drive, just jump in the car and go to the nearest store (CVS,Riteaid, Kmart, supermarket, etc) anywhere there are people and you can walk around and know you are not alone. That's what I did, after I lost my husband and the grief and anxiety really got to me and my family or friends were not available. No need to buy, just be with people.   If it's really overwhelming, you can have your Dr. prescribe a mild anti-anxiety pill and take that when needed, some take it before going to bed, helps to relax and sleep thru the night,  If on the other hand you wake in the middle of the night, take the pill immediately, go into another room, watch some TV or read abook and soon you'll be calm enough to go back to sleep. I have them and always carry 1 with me, for "just in case"--  off the smokes (AGAIN) this time having much easier time, even with the suspicions for several weeks and the final confirmation yesterday, that I will be having surgery in Sept. to remove small nodule from my lung.  So, unlike me don't let the anxiety allow you to go back to the smokes as I did in the past, get help, stay with this site, these folks have been unbelievabley supportive and they did not even know what I was going on in my life, just that I quit.  My prayers are with all of you, may yours please be with me.   God bless all of you and stay strong. Do whatever it takes---DON'T GO BACK!!!

Wow, that really helps knowing that I'm not alone. 🙂

What kind of anti-anxiety pills helped you?
