Hello everyone,  I  have 3 more days until my quit date, and of course the anxiety is creeping in.  I am happy to be quitting and I really want to quit.  I am doing something different by letting others know that I need help and I am also willing to encourage others.  This is new to me and thank all of you for being there for me.

Welcome!    How have you prepared for your quit?    Have you done the readings and steps suggested here on the home page?     Someone will come along soon with more links for you.

Don't let fear get you!     For many of us the fear of thinking of quitting was much bigger than the actual doing it.     This is a great place to get information, encouragement and support.   Read/blog/listen to the Elders and the Wise Ones.     Follow the example of those that are going ahead of you.

Again, welcome to the EX.    Please stay close and let us know how you are doing.    We can help you help yourself!

Quitting actually calmed my nerves.....I think the toxins in cigarette smoke actually made me more anxious.....who would've thought??? My anxiety has disappeared since I've been quit.....15 months now.....One thing I've learned is this..... you have to really WANT to quit smoking to be successful.... Good luck to you and stay close to this site....it really helps to be successful.

I am on Day 12....  and if I can go that long without smoking.. anyone who decides not to smoke can do the same.   This is true...  kind of like Tinkerbell and everyone is saying "I believe"    ...... you have to tell yourself that you believe and once the day comes understand that you cannot smoke, period.   You CAN do this.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

Welcome!

The MOST important thing you can do is educate yourself about the nicotine addiction by reading, reading and more reading… Congratulations on the best decision you could possibly make for yourself and your loved ones…

We suggest a 'quit kit' composed of a list of distraction techniques and things to help you through like cinnamon sticks, crunchy things (carrots, celery, chips some hard candy, lots of water), lemons…biting into a lemon or sticking your head in the freezer and taking a deep breath gets you through.

It takes the mindset that we aren't giving up anything...we are doing it because we want to and not signing up for a lifetime of deprivation but a lifetime of freedom...that is the personal journey no one can take for us...We will be here for you every step of the way! xo

Anxiety is normal.  After I'd put out my last cigarette I ate half a bag of cookies.  Not suggesting you do the same but if you plan on what you're going to do instead of smoke it's a lot easier.  I and everyone else is rooting for you.  Keep blogging and reading - it really helps.  This is a wonderful community; many here are committed not only to their own quit but also very much to help others. Take whatever fits you.  CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR DECISION!!!!

Welcome to our community!

I was terrified as I approached my quit date but I had not yet found this site, the educational materials and the support from its members.  I am so happy you found us!

Give your quit a boost by doing the reading suggested above, most importantly Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking.:  The better you understand nicotine addiction, the more successful you will be.  Know your enemy!

Stick around!  Read the blogs and responses.  There is a wealth of quitting experience represented here.  Ask questions when you have them and for support when you need it.  We will be with you every step of the way!
