I am on vacation visiting my mom in the retirement community she lives in I have noticed that there are not many smokers left in that demographic. While lounging by the pool today I noticed a woman who was clearly young enough to be a visitor as well heading towards the smoking area with a pack of cigarettes in hand. Anxious for the company of another smoker I headed out as well. She must have felt the same way as she greatly me warmly with a comment of glad to see another smoker or something to that effect.
i responded that I had not seen many smokers, before I hardly had the words out of my mouth she flew into a tirade about how all of the people she grew up watching smoke have quit and stuck her with the addiction, and now nag her endlessly. Having been reading the material and blogs here I calmly responded that we are all responsible for our own addiction.
she calmed down a bit and we made small talk unti we finished our cigarettes, but it was a great reminder leading up to my quit date that no matter how we picked up this addiction only we can break it.
