So it's Day 5.  Still doing all right.  A little edgy today...things that usually annoy me are EXTRA annoying!!!  And i'm sure it is the withdrawals but I have kinda wanted to cry all day...could be hormones too though...or a combination of both.  Kinda pissed that all my chocolate is gone but I guess it's a good thing cause I have gained 7 lbs since Wednesday!!!  LOL!  But on the bright side...the first week is almost over!!  It's good!!  So, just wondering though...at what point do you call yourself a non-smoker??  Or do you ever...are you forever just an ex-smoker?

Congrats...Hell Week will be behind you very soon

Unfortunately a little weight gain is a part of most people's quit....I've lost a couple of quits over that....It was just an excuse I made to start smoking again...

You are doing great...keep it up

Ease up on that chocolate and start working on other activities to replace the old behavior. Prepare yourself by having nutritious snacks available. There are various sugarless gums available and using a stress ball may help.

Except for an occasional short craving or thought of smoking, my current everyday life has nothing to do with thoughts of poisoning myself with those nasty cigarettes. So I'd have to say for 99% of the time, I'm a non-smoker. 1% of the time, I'm an EX-smoker. If that never changed, I would be fine with that. But I believe, as I continue to move forward in my life, that smoking will only be but a memory and I will have so many other new goals to achieve.

I'm on Day 10 and I'm calling myself a non-smoker.  It sounds better to me. Lol. I'm sure that if I ever get into a coversation with a smoker I'll call myself an ex-smoker though.

We've discovered Hall's cough drops very helpful to beat cravings.  I like the honey lemon and my husband likes the cherry.  It's good we like different flavors so we don't fight over them. Haha.

Keep up the good work! ")

Day 5.  Beautiful.  Just B*E*A*U*T*I*F*U*L.  Keep it up.

When does one call themselves a non-smoker?  Hmmm.  Good question.  I guess it depends on how secure you feel in your quit.  When you know for sure that you are no longer in any danger of caving to a craving, then you might consider yourself a non-smoker.  But that's a person 'call.'  If it makes you feel good to call yourself a non-smoker after a week - you do so.  Ask an insurance company what THEIR parameteres are.  Might suprise you.  Having lost a couple of quits at my three month stage, I personally wouldn't even think in those terms.  For me it's more of a journey than a statement of fact about myself.  The nature of addiction is so very delicate (speaking from having seen so many long term quitters relapse).  My fear is that the minute I make a statement like I AM A NON SMOKER, I'll somehow become complacent and no longer keep en garde.  If that makes any sense to you.   I QUIT SMOKING.  That's about as far as I'm willing to go with a statement about the nature of my quit.  To me a "non smoker" is one who has never put a cigarette to their lips.  Once addicted, always just a puff away from going back.  Which is NOT true of someone who has never smoked in their lives.  All one puff does for them is make them feel dizzy and nauseous.  Think about it.

Johio...oh no!!  Don't let that happen this time!!  A few lbs mean NOTHING when it comes to the years you are adding to your life!!

Patty-cake...thanks for that...yeah the healthy snacks are here...I'm kind of a health nut...but it just wan't gonna cut it!!  LOL!  Luckily the cravings are already subsiding..for the smokes and the food!  Lol!  I am pretty much back on track!  Not happy bout the lbs but that's ok...like I said it's nothing compared to the YEARS I have added to my life!!  I like your outlook on non vs ex!!

SkolGirlDiane...way to go on day 10!!!  Glad you have found something that hleps you with the cravings so much!  I'm a fan of the honey lemon too!  Lol!  Keep it up girl!!

Giulia...thank you ma'am!!  And yes that all makes perfect sense to me!  That is actually pretty much exactly what I was thinking myself.  For  me I am still saying that I am "quitting".  I think this early in the quit it is MOST important to focus on the process.  The journey you spoke of.  I KNOW I will not cave to a craving but at the same time the cravings are there...and they can't be ignored...cause that is when I would fall prey to it.  As long as we are vigilant and recognize the craving, accept it's existance, and let it pass, we will succeed!  And eventually they will disappear all together!  That will be the day we will all be able to call ourselves NON smokers!!
