All I Do Is EAT!!

Okay.  I'm going to heat up this last brownie and cover it in ice cream and that's it.  Hubby's comfort food is killing me!!  Already packed on 6 pounds in 3 weeks and not too happy about it.  I know I was supposed to be snacking on carrots and celery and things like that but I hate that stuff.  I'm eating like every meal is my last.  I go to bed and hear my stomach growling every night.  It actually hurts.  Time to straighten up.

Guess I'll get that bike down that's hanging in the garage.  It was bought a few years ago with good intentions.  Rode it maybe 3 times.  I'm sure these lazy dogs of mine would love to take me for a walk.  They could stand to drop a few pounds too.  We have a room full of gym equipment but I have to force myself to go in there.  I think I would enjoy being outside more than cooped up in that room anyway.  Just need to find something to do until spring then the yard work will keep me busy.  That's my theropy.

If he makes one more brownie, bakes one more cake or buys any more ice cream I'm kicking him out!!!

lol.

there's a huge dopamine release connected to food.

nicotine hijacks our pleasure receptors and thety take awhile to adjust to a new schedule.

there was a story on the news a couple months ago that said people who looked at pictures of food got nearly the same dopamine release as actually eating the food.

musice releases dopamine and engages your whole mind.

laughing does it

exercise

chocolate

sex

you are trying to get your dopamine going again. that is what you are missing

I don't like the raw veggie things, either.... but there are safer things than brownies, cake and ice cream.....  Like, instead of chips, I used popcorn. Not perfect like celery sticks, but better.....  Edamain beans (lightly salted) are a fat free munchie I never thought I'd like but can't get enough of them now, and they fill you up.    grapes help the hand to mouth.... Oh, and banana's not only help you sleep, but minimze nicotine cravings.

Bottom line, though..... nothing is more important than the quit. Not even weight gain, because that can be tackled after a good, solid quit is established, if we have to.

But, the bike is a great idea.... hopefully, you'll feel so good about not getting winded on it now that you're smoke free, that it will encourage you.  I know that it took me a while to get back on my exercise bike, but once I did I was so impressed with my lung's new stamina, that I kept going!

Keep up the good work protecting that quit..... LOL and tell hubby to lock up his goodies so that you can't get them!!

He does all the cooking and grocery shopping but I think I'll go wander up and down the aisles and see what I can find.  Maybe seeing all that food will get my dopamine pumping.  Never tried edamain beans. They look scarey but worth a try.  Don't know how unhealthy boiled peanuts are but I ate a ton of them Sunday.  Sounded kinda healthy at the time.

Thanks for the input.  For now I'm going to go do everything on Dale's list except the chocolate.  Just did that.

I gained 30 pounds in 8 months!  But I'd rather have that then be smoking!  My weight has been up and down and it's hard to maintain a good weight, but even with the extra weight I feel 1,000 times better than I did when I smoked and was skinny

Sounds like you are craving sweets!  Try small fruits that take work to eat like clementine oranges or pomagranites.  both are really good for you and are time consuming to eat.  Apples with peanut butter (or if you are REALLY needing a sweet fix, run through mc d's and get the caramel apple dippers because they are pre portioned and ready to go. The first week of my quit a friend of mine had given us a whole bunch of fresh peaches and I ate the heck out of them.  Bananas are really filling and are great to replace donuts with in the morning (plus they are cheaper than donuts too)  Popcorn is good if you are having salt cravings and so are big pickles!

Yeah I don't know too many people who are excited to gain weight, I'm usually not. However I really had to tell myself that quitting smoking was #1, and weight #2. At first I ate whatever, but I was having an emotional issue with it as the weight did come on, and I was having stomach issues with not having a bowel movement and bloating and such.  I don't know if you have one, but I have a juicer. If you can save your ex cig $ for one, or know a friend who has one and can ask to use it, or take the vegies/fruit there if they don't want to lend it out and make a big thing of fruit and vegie juice. I pour a large glass of fruit juice in the am (after my coffee) and sip it thruout the am. Fruits have a natural sugar that will feed your craving of sugar. I also sip smaller glasses thruout the day, and sneek in a veggie drink later in the day. Not only does it taste yummy it is very healthy for you, and will help with any constipation or bloating you may be feeling. Many web sites for the benefits of juicing, the nutrition value of of the recipes they offer, and health benefits.

Also, dust off that gym equipment and keep busy on that. Hard to eat a sundae on a treadmill, I think? lol I've never tried it 😉 Get that energy out! I'm sure your dogs would be so happy to go for regular walks now!!

Sugar free gum really helps me... also I keep bags of different kinds of nuts... at least it is more healthy.

Thanks all for reminding me that my quit comes first.  I'm keeping that my number one focus and everything else is secondary for now.  I will make better choices in what I'm eating.  I don't want to use food as an excuse for keeping me from smoking.  I'M keeping me from not smoking!!

Right now, in my office, in my reach, I see pretzels, crackers, Cheez-Its, raisens, Dum-Dums, Life Savers, Werthyer's, pepermint balls and Girl Scout cookies.  Hmmm.  I think I've created another monster.  I'm putting all this junk (except the hard candy) back in the kitchen.  I see what I'm doing here.  Instead of reaching for a smoke, I'm reaching for whatever is in sight.  Okay, instead of walking to the kitchen for a junk refill, I'm going to try the deep breath routine instead.  We'll see what happens.
